ENU and an Italian company will develop a technology for producing a new type of fuel
As part of the official visit of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Italy, a memorandum of cooperation was signed among the Eurasian National University, an Italian company “GREEN SPARK ITALY SRL” and ALE “Union of Green Hydrogen of Kazakhstan”. The parties intend to develop a technology for producing a new type of fuel to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
The joint project “Natural Gas + H2” is aimed at creating the production of "green" hydrogen and its optimal mixing with natural gas. The new technology is necessary to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the environment and improve the environment. ENU scientists, based on the results obtained at the pilot industrial site, plan to propose the introduction of innovations at thermal power plants in Almaty and Aktau.
“The Eurasian National University has great scientific potential and strong staff. We give priority to supporting the scientific research of our scientists. I would like to note that ENU researchers are actively working on the development of new high-tech and environmentally friendly technologies to reduce air pollution by industrial enterprises. A group of scientists led by our professor Kairat Kuterbekov initiated and implemented projects for the development of hydrogen energy technologies in Kazakhstan for the first time. International cooperation within the framework of the memorandum will allow the implementation of pilot projects in the field of production and use of environmentally friendly hydrogen. I hope that the result of our joint efforts will be the launch of a new technological fuel production line, which will significantly improve the environment and reduce harmful emissions,” Duman Aitmagambetov, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development of the L.N. Gumilyov ENU said.
ENU scientists have been conducting scientific activities in the field of hydrogen energy for more than 15 years. The Research Institute “Eurasian Institute of Physics and Energy Research and High-Tech Technologies” is successfully operating at the university, where scientific research is carried out.
It is worth noting that last year ENU and the JSC “Almaty Electric Power Plants” signed a memorandum on cooperation and interaction in the field of environmental protection and the use of a mixture of gas and hydrogen fuels.
