ENU has developed an application with the semantics of Kazakh names

IT specialists of the Eurasian National University are expanding the scope of the Kazakh language and creating free digital products. The new mobile application “Kyzykty Onomastika” allows finding out the meaning and origin of personal names, geographical objects, animals and birds.

ENU IT specialists have developed a mobile application “Kyzykty Onomastika” in the Kazakh language. The new digital product combines over 800 proper names. They are grouped by more than 100 semantic features, which is the main advantage of the program. Users of the mobile application are given the opportunity to choose a name for their child or find out the meaning of their name.

“In his speeches, the President has noted the importance of increasing digital products in the state language. We have launched a user-friendly mobile application “Kyzyky Onomastika”. All names are grouped by semantic qualities – this is the uniqueness of our application. For a year and a half, painstaking work has been done – we have studied a lot of works and materials. Our application provides an opportunity to learn the language of origin, the etymology of female and male names. If your name consists of several words, you can find the individual meaning of each of them. The digital platform also has alphabetical sorting, for the convenience of users, the search history is saved and the names you choose can be added to a separate folder,” Gulmira Bekmanova, project supervisor, Director of the Digital Development and Distance Learning Department of the L.N. Gumilyov ENU shared.

The digital platform provides a convenient navigation system and fast filtering. The mobile application is now available for Android platform users.
