The current problems of assessing the quality of educational translation in universities were discussed at ENU
On September 20, 2024, a round table on the topic "Current problems of translation quality assessment of an academic sphere in universities" was organized at the L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University with the participation of the Department of Russian Philology.
The round table was held as part of the presentation of the scientific project by teachers and staff of Abai KazNPU, the executors of the grant financing project AP 19680449, "Translation quality assessment in the scientific and educational sphere".
A.Zhumabekova (project manager), doctor of philological sciences, professor and project executors, N.R. Shengelbaeva, candidate of philological sciences, and A.Ospanova, master, made reports for the first-year students of the philological faculty "Kazakh language and literature" speciality. And also A. Zhumsakbayev, PhD, senior lecturer of the department of ENU participated.
The project executors shared their research tasks and the results obtained, and exchanged experiences with colleagues—teachers and translation researchers. In addition, within the framework of the state program "Translation of 100 textbooks of the humanities into the Kazakh language," the intermediate results of external and internal translation quality assessment of five textbooks of the philological direction, in particular the works of S.Terminasova, V. Fromkin, R. Rodman and N. Hyams, T. Janson, S. Pinker and M. Rayan from English and Russian into Kazakh were announced.
It should be noted that this event is of great importance for students studying in the target audience of the above-mentioned translated textbooks.
Students were introduced to various models for evaluating quality assessment of scientific and educational translation. The students who actively participated in this meeting were very interested in the reports of the participants in the scientific project.
