National rankings of universities and educational programs focused on the promotion of educational institutions to improve the quality of studying, to develop academic mobility of students and teachers, to boost research potential of the university. The priority of ranking system is preparation of the leading universities of the country to participate in international academic rankings of universities, “recognition” of Kazakhstan’s diplomas, high level of education and competencies of graduates and their relevance in the global labor market.
IQAA annually represents the General ranking of the best universities in Kazakhstan, formed on the basis of analysis for quantitative academic performance of university activities, reputational assessment of experts and survey of employers. Information is collected via surveys that assess the academic resources of the university, the agency uses six indicators: quantitative composition of the students contingent, results of students' educational achievements, qualitative content of teaching staff of the university, research and innovation potential of the university, level of international cooperation, level of information support of the university related to the monitoring of the quality of the website. An important criterion is the reputational ranking university evaluation experts and employers.
Starting from 2008L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University annually took leading positions in this rating:
In 2012, our university has improved its position on all counts and took first place, becoming the best among multidisciplinary universities of Kazakhstan, which indicates the undisputed leadership in the educational market.
In the National ranking of 2013 best multidisciplinary universities of Kazakhstan L.N. Gumilyov ENU also took 1st place.
Initiated and sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Science of the RK the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR) conducts ranking of the national universities which successfully implementing Bachelor’s Academic Programs.
Ranking of universities is conducted by five major criteria: the proportion of talented students, teachers and researchers; resource endowments, international cooperation; competitiveness of graduates, conducting advanced research and its effectiveness.
Experts of the IAAR in methodology of university evaluation especially highlighted indicators such as the availability of publications with research results in highly cited journals, academic mobility and international cooperation.
According to the results of Bachelor’s Academic Programs Ranking in 2013 L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University continues to hold a leading position (1st place - 8 specialties, 2nd place - 18 specialties, 3rd place - 9 specialties).
In 2013, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University for the first time participated in the pilot project for ranking graduate educational programs. Academic ranking was conducted by the Center of the Bologna process and academic mobility by six criteria:
1) High concentration of talented masters - 10%;
2) Adequacy of Resources - 15%;
3) Academic Mobility - 20%;
4) Competitiveness of graduates - 15%;
5) Effectiveness of scientific research - 20%;
6) Commercialization of research results - 20%.
According to the rating 27 universities entered the top group, 5 of them national, 11 - state, 1 - international, 8 - corporatized, 2 - private. Our university has entered the top three leading universities by the quality of educational programs (15).
