Abstract (English): dissertation prepared by Indira Bektursynovna Bulegenova to obtain the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the educational program 8D02310 - Foreign Philology on the topic: «Functional-semantical approach to study of positive and negative emotions (on English, German, Kazakh material) Relevance of the research topic: The relevance of the research is determined by the need to identify similarities and differences between linguistic units expressing positive and negative emotions in English, German and Kazakh by their functional and semantic analysis, as well as to identify the features of emotional expression in three different cultures. Object of the study: linguistic units expressing positive and negative emotions in English, German, and Kazakh. Subject of the study: functional and semantic features of linguistic units expressing positive and negative emotions in English, German and Kazakh languages. Research aim: - to identify similarities and differences between each other by comparing the functional and semantic features of positive and negative emotions based on literary texts in English, German and Kazakh as works of three different ethnocultures, to reveal the functional semantics of positive and negative emotions in three different linguistic cultures. Research objectives: 1. Define the concepts of "emotion" and "emotive unit" in linguistics, to define and identify the difference with other concepts expressing emotions in linguistics. 2. 2. Identify the functions of emotive units in a literary text and analyze the means of expressing emotions. 3. Establish which linguistic means express positive and negative emotions in literary texts in English, German and Kazakh, to conduct a semantic analysis within the framework of functional-semantic fields and micro-fields, to identify national and cultural similarities and differences.. 4. Conduct a free associative experiment to identify the explicit expression of positive and negative emotions in terms of modality. Research methods include the method of text analysis, which allows to explicitly reveal the meaningful characteristics in the text of generalizing, studying, systematizing theoretical concepts of emotions, the linguistic statistical method, and methods of associative experiment used to identify the association of emotions. Scientific novelty: For the first time, a comprehensive functional and semantic study of linguistic means of expressing positive and negative emotions has been conducted based on the literary trilogies of T. Dreiser ("Trilogy of Desire"), V. Bredel ("Verwandte und Bekannte") and A. Nurpeisov ("Kan men ter"). The functions and semantics of linguistic means, their division into microfields are revealed, psychological, philosophical and sociocultural bases of use, as well as national peculiarities are established. Theoretical significance: Positive and negative emotions in English, German and Kazakh, the functional and semantic field of which has never been the subject of special research, are of great importance for the theoretical inclusion of this research work in the science of linguistics. As the research paper analyzed and summarized important theoretical opinions about positive and negative emotions in English, German and Kazakh languages, their functional and semantic field, semantic features and similarities. Practical significance: The theoretical conclusions, data and scientific results of the research work can be used as an additional tool for students of English, German and Kazakh as foreign languages in the process of language learning, in the preparation of textbooks, dictionaries and reference books and theoretical courses in the field of comparative word formation. The results of the functional and semantic study of positive and negative emotions in three different linguistic cultures, such as English, German and Kazakh, will contribute to the consideration of the issue of translation and intercultural communication. Key points for defense: 1. The verbal transmission of emotions indicates that there is a special category in language, such as emotivity, similar to the psychological category of "emotionality". Since the nominative potential in expressing and conveying emotions in language is high, the emotive seme plays a leading role in terms of communication. From the point of view of functionality, we call such a unit an emotive linguistic unit. Such linguistic units acquire emotivity as a result of the interaction of the initiations of the author-hero in a literary text.; Linguistic units expressing emotions in the linguistic cultures of English, German and Kazakh languages play an important role in revealing the emotional state of the characters of a literary text, their emotional world and the author's intentions. 2. 2. The functional and semantic field of emotivity in a literary text is a system of linguistic means at all levels of language united by the common semantic function "emotivity". The microfield of the functional semantic field forms denotatively significant emoticons in the core, contextual emotive language units that give connotative meaning to the periphery, and in literary texts in three languages with different structures, such as English, German and Kazakh, emotive language units are classified within the functional semantic field according to the modality marker "positively and negatively". 3. The expression of positive and negative emotions in English, German and Kazakh languages has mutual national cultural similarities and differences. Microfields kuanysh, suyispenshilik, umit are characteristic of three languages. Microfield Bakyt, kamkorlyk, have a place only in English.Microfields of positive emotions, such as Bata, yerkeletu, meyrimdilik, are found only in literary texts in the Kazakh language. 4. An associative experiment confirmed differences in the linguistic perception of emotions: negative emotions are associated with the concepts of "destruction", "darkness", "cold", and positive emotions with "light", "warmth", "sweetness", "freedom". Approbation of the work: The results are presented in 9 publications, including 1 article in the Web of Science, 4 articles in journals recommended by the Committee for Control in the Field of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and 4 reports at international conferences. Structure of the dissertation: The dissertation consists of an introduction, two chapters with sub-chapters and conclusions, a conclusion, and a list of references. The results of the associative experiment and linguistic statistical analysis are attached. Summary of the work: The introduction reveals the relevance, purpose, objectives, object and subject of research, hypothesis, methodology, sources, scientific novelty, theoretical and practical significance, provisions for protection and approbation. The first part of the work "Theoretical and methodological prerequisites for the study of emotions" consists of four sub-chapters. As a result of generalizing and studying the theoretical foundations of the expression of emotions in language, we became convinced that the leading role is played by the transmission of emotions in language in verbal and non-verbal forms, including verbal. Formulating the considered theoretical considerations, we draw attention to the fact that "emotionality" is a psychological concept, and "emotivity" is a linguistic concept. Human emotions and feelings are primarily reflected and conveyed in a literary text. The reason why emotive units are of deep interest in modern linguistics is that human emotions and feelings, the true nature of man, feelings in the inner world of man, linguistic consciousness, national worldview are expressed in the outside world through the word. It is for this reason that the study of emotive units based on the feelings of the "author-hero" in a literary text, where emotions are realistically reflected, and their classification by the marker of modality "positively-negatively" allows achieving significant results in linguistics. Before studying emotive units in a literary text, as a result of studying their activities in a literary text, we found that emotive language units are in communicative; emotionally expressive; pragmatic activities. In the second part, in order to study the functional and semantic field of positive and negative emotions in English, German and Kazakh, the trilogy of the great writer A. Nurpeisov "Blood and Sweat", the American writer and publicist T. Dreiser "Trilogy of Desire" (The Financier, Titan, The Stoic) and the trilogy of the German writer V. Bredel are presented. "Verwandte und Bekannte" (Die Vater, Die Sohne, Die Enkel). These works were written in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They raise political and social difficulties such as population inequality in the social coexistence of the population. Contexts with all positive and negative emotional linguistic units were selected from these works of art. Textual analysis, semantic analysis, linguistic statistical analysis, etc. were carried out. Traditionally, they were divided into two large groups: positive and negative emotions, having studied the functional semantics of emotional language units within each group, grouping them into mutual micropoles, and using the comparative method of positive and negative emotions in English, German and Kazakh linguistic cultures, they tried to identify the similarities and differences between positive and negative emotions in the culture of the three different nations.
