Abstract (English): Dissertation Work by Tagudretova Botagoz Beibitovna «Artistic depiction of modern reality in the works of Marhabat Baigut» prepared for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the educational program 8D02305 – Philology ABSTRACT Relevance of the Research Topic. The works of M. Baigut have not been fully explored within the context of national codes, artistic traditions, cultural integration, and literary craftsmanship. At the same time, scholarly analysis of Marhabat Baigut's oeuvre significantly contributes to the correct understanding of a new era in the history of our literature. Studying the writer's creativity is an act that defines the place of artistic creation within the framework of social inquiry. A deep examination of Marhabat Baigut's work is also required to reveal the features and development of regional literature. Research Object. The dissertation focuses primarily on the works of Marhabat Baigut written during the period of independence. Overall, the author pays considerable attention to the works “Almagayyp” (2001), “Qozapaya” (2003), “Salkyn Masak” (2008), “Bula Bulak” (2012), as well as those included in the seven-volume collection of writings published in 2019. Research Subject. The subject of the study encompasses the artistic experience of the author M. Baigut and its influence on his work, archetypal images, types of intertextuality in the writer's works, thematic and ideological lines, the author's skill in depicting characters, psychological depth, and lyricism in his works, as well as his compositional approaches and linguistic mastery. Research Aim. The analysis of M. Baigut’s literary mastery in the context of traditions and innovations, and the evaluation of his contribution to the narrative genre, serve as the primary goals of this work. To achieve the research goal, the following tasks were set: – To determine the place of advanced examples of folk and authorial verbal art based on the artistic consciousness and creativity of the author and the traditional foundations laid down. – To identify archetypal foundations and demonstrate the author's mastery in creating an artistic world. – To determine the intertextual structure of the writer’s works, his compositional abilities, use of national vocabulary, language tools, and word formation, showcasing the specificity of the “ordinary people” imagery created by the author. To differentiate types and determine the roles of psychological insight in the depiction of characters, highlighting the predominant types of frequently used artistic details. – To assess the artistic function of lyricism in the author's works. – To define the role and place of humor in the author's language and in the creation of visual narratives. – To analyze the practical skills of the writer in reflecting the realities of life through artistic creativity. Research Methods. Based on the analysis of M. Baigut's literary works, objective-analytical and comparative methods were employed. A comprehensive approach was also applied to differentiate the works. Scientific Novelty of the Research. The main novelty of this dissertation lies in the focus on the author’s artistic craftsmanship, stylistic choices, and portrayal of characters, while considering the context of tradition and innovation. As a result of the research, the following conclusions were made: – Traditional and innovative elements in Marhabat Baigut’s work were identified. – The characters, which summarize the reality of the transitional period in society, were analyzed. – The intertextual function of folk art and oral literature in the writer’s works was demonstrated. – The artistic function of symbolic imagery was determined. – The priority of authorial narrative, character actions, portraits, monologues, and dialogues in character creation was highlighted, along with the differentiation of their syntactic integration. – It was clarified that the main feature of the "ordinary people" image is their struggle for human values. – The role of external composition in the writer’s works, especially the artistic function of the title, was revealed. – The system of motifs and their compositional function in the writer’s works was specified. – The characteristics of oratory speech and types of authorial neologisms in the writer’s language usage were defined. – The features of prosaic lyricism in the writer’s works were examined. – The portrayal of national consciousness in the writer’s works was studied. Theoretical Significance of the Research. In writing the dissertation, theoretical works of prominent scholars were primarily considered. The key positions in the works of A. Baitursynov [1], E. Ismailov [2], K. Zhumaliev [3], Z. Kabdolov [4], and Y. Borev [5] hold fundamental importance for this study. Dissertations exploring the artistic function of characters, archetypal imagery, plot and composition, chronotope, archetypes, mythic consciousness in literature, mythopoetics, text analysis, and lyricism in prose were reviewed, contributing to the development of minor genres in Kazakh prose during the independence era. The opinions of literary critics on M. Baigut’s works were also taken into account. Practical Significance of the Research. This scientific work can be used for further research in literature, linguistics, and folklore studies, and can serve as supplementary material for lectures and practical lessons in universities, colleges, and secondary schools. Main Findings of the Dissertation Subject to Defense of the Dissertation: – The writer’s works, which deeply reflect life’s reality in a realistic-psychological sense, are among the significant studies of Kazakh prose. His characters are Kazakh. – The author’s moral position in depicting various social situations and personal issues, along with his stylistic mastery, were identified. – The artistic explorations of the writer in developing the traditions of psychological depth and lyricism in prose, and his skillful use of stream-of-consciousness techniques in the story “Ädebïet pänınıñ periştesi” and the novella “Dos peyili” were analyzed. – Folklore is not only quoted in the writer’s works but, in most cases, becomes the leitmotif and forms the intertextual structure. – When portraying ordinary people, the writer focuses on displaying resilient qualities, which are not always recognized. – The psychological depth of the characters is revealed more through conflicts and situations than through authorial narrative and description. – In character creation, the author primarily uses character actions, landscapes, and dialogues. – Humor in the writer’s works is expressed mainly through language and character depiction. – The author creates themes derived from his own life experiences, rather than through gathering specialized material. However, the story “Applicant -88” demonstrates his mastery of historical themes as well. – Although M. Baigut addresses current literary themes and depicts similar classical images, the individuality of his pen is always unmistakable. – Marhabat Baigut is a writer who made a significant contribution to Kazakh prose by creating characters that reflect the features of social and psychological groups during the years of independence. Publication and Discussion (Approval). The general results of the research are reflected in 12 publications. Five articles were published in journals recommended by the Committee for Control in the Field of Science and Higher Education (CCSHE) of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and seven articles were published in international conferences abroad. Structure of the Dissertation. The dissertation consists of an introduction, three chapters, a conclusion, and a list of references. Summary of the Dissertation. The introduction contains the relevance of the research, goals, objectives, research object, research subject, research level, methodology, research methods, sources, scientific novelty, theoretical and practical significance, main findings, publications, and approval of the research. Chapter 1: “The Writer’s Personality and Content of the Work” includes three sections. It focuses on the influence of other writers on M. Baigut's artistic consciousness, archetypal images, non-authorial forms of speech, their artistic transformation, and the thematic and ideological aspects of his works. Chapter 2: “The Artistic World of M. Baigut’s Works” presents the main features of the depiction of ordinary people as a literary category, the role of psychological depth in character depiction, and the writer’s mastery within an artistic context. Chapter 3: “Composition and Language in the Writer’s Works” highlights the compositional features and the role of authorial emotions in organizing the text, particularly lyricism, external composition techniques, poetics of the title, the writer’s use of folk vocabulary, and his rational use of rhetorical techniques. Conclusion: The main results of the dissertation are summarized as follows: Examples taken from classic writers, which have influenced the work of the author, are not recognized in M. Baigut's work at the level of repetition and imitation, but rather in the nature of creative competition. Archetypal plots and images, along with their deep underlying layers, are skillfully intertwined with the current problems of today's reality. It is undeniable that intertextuality is closely related to the author's ideas, some of which have acquired a leitmotif character. The thematic and ideological structure of the works is closely connected with the biography and experience of the writer. There are also works that confirm the author's skillful handling of historical themes. Despite the fact that the image of ordinary people has similarities with the image of "poor people," it also has its own unique features. This is reflected in the struggle of ordinary people and the diversity of their social status. Psychological depth in the writer's works occupies a leading place in the characterization. It is evident that the author's mood, especially lyricism, plays a leading role in creating the imagery and plot composition. The artistic function of external composition and the title of the work cannot be underestimated, as it contributes to recognizing the idea of the work. The writer's linguistic mastery is primarily determined by its service to the nature of the genre, that is, brevity. At the same time, artistic means characteristic of folk speech prevail.
