
Scientists from China, Belarus, Lithuania, Tunisia and Kazakhstan discussed teaching English issues

The Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department hosted a next international online scientific and practical conference in English “The Art of Persuasion and Communication: Developing English Skills”. This conference was first held in 2018 and since then has been a traditional platform for the exchange of experience of ENU teachers with foreign colleagues in teaching English in the higher education system.

The organizer of the annual international online conference is the teaching staff of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department, headed by Candidate of Philological Sciences Zhanna Beisembayeva
Representatives of ENU partner universities took an active part in the conference: Gomel State University named after Franciska Skaryna (Belarus) www.gsu.by, Zhejiang University (China) www.zju.edu.cn, Vytautas the Great University (Lithuania) www.dvu.lt, University of Sousse (Tunisia) www.uso.rnu.tn .
The key speakers of the conference were experts in the field of modern methodology of foreign language education: Elena Sazhina, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Francisk Skorina Gomel State University(Belarus) with her report “Flipped Classroom” In Teaching University Courses”; Rustam Shadiev, PhD, Professor of the Institute of Education of Zhejiang University with his report “Advanced Educational Technologies and Their Applications to Facilitate EFL Speaking and Intercultural Competence”; Audrone Raskauskiene, PhD, Professor of the Foreign Languages, Literary Studies and Translation Department of Vytautas the Great University with her report “Developing Foreign Language Skills: the Neurolinguistic Approach”; Monia Chouari, PhD, Assistant Professor of the English Department, the Faculty of Humanities, University of Sousse with her report “Enhancing Critical Skills by Teaching Victorian Poetry to Grad Students”.
On behalf of ENU 3 speakers of the department made a joint report at once: Candidate of Philology Zhanna Beisembayeva, Doctor of Philology, Associate Professor Gulbarshin Baigunisova, a 2nd year master’s student with a major in “7M01719 – Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” Olga Derbilova.
The work of the international online conference continued in two breakout sessions: Digitalization of Foreign Language Teaching and Learning, Modern Technologies in Foreign Language Teaching and Learning. Speakers at the breakout sessions were mainly master’s students of ENU, Astana International University, K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University named as well as teachers of Astana schools.
“This year, scientists from Tunisia and Lithuania are taking part in our conference. During my trip to Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas under European Erasmus+ program, I met colleagues, exchanged contacts with them, and today they are speaking at our conference and submitted their articles to be published in our conference proceedings,” Professor of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department Roza Zhussupova shared.
Based on the results of the plenary session and sections of the international conference, proceedings are planned to be published in PDF and printed version.
Справочно: профессор из Китая Рустам Шадиев прибыл в ЕНУ по программе приглашения зарубежных профессоров МНВО РК и находится в университете в период с 13.11.2023 по 12.12.2023 с курсом лекций «Организация и планирование научно-исследовательской работы» для магистрантов 1-го курса ОП «7М01719 – Иностранный язык: два иностранных языка». Приглашенный профессор имеет 5 статей в БД «Скопус» в соавторстве с ППС кафедры-организатора.
For reference: Professor Rustam Shadiev from China arrived at ENU under the program of inviting foreign professors of MSHE RK and is visiting ENU between November 13, 2023 and December 12, 2023 with a course of lectures “Organization and Planning of Research Work” for 1st year master’s students with a major in “7M01719 – Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages”. The visiting professor has 5 articles in the Scopus database in collaboration with the teachers of the relevant department.
