
Rector visited the University Sports Centre
The Chairman of the Management Board - Rector of the L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University Yerlan Sydykov visited the University sports centre sports and recreation complex. The modern complex was built as part of the 25th anniversary of the project.
The total area of this facility is 7,074 square meters, 216 students can be accommodated here in each shift. The sports complex is designed for conducting sports games such as volleyball, basketball, mini-football, handball, wrestling, billiards, chess, togyzkumalak, dancing, as well as competitions and training sessions of special sports sections.
The modern building of the complex consists of four floors: on the ground floor there are two football, one basketball and four volleyball courts; on the second floor there are men's and women's locker rooms; on the third floor there are men's and women's gyms, a boxing hall, sports rooms for playing chess, togyzkumalak, asyk atu and bes tas; on the fourth floor – a tennis room, a gym for shaping and dancing.
It should also be noted that since January 2023, a fitness club has been opened for the university staff. The following services are provided for 4 types of subscriptions: swimming pool, gyms, yoga and power aerobics +stretching.
The work of sports sections in 13 sports is underway, where national teams of the university are formed.
"Today, more than 20 thousand students from all over the country and abroad study at ENU. We, the university management, are constantly monitoring the problem of creating all conditions for students within the university walls. To this end, today me, vice-rectors and heads of structural divisions came to get acquainted with the work of the sections of the sports and recreation complex. The goal is to revive the work of sports sections and show results worthy of the status of a national educational institution at world university games and international competitions. I want to emphasize once again that we need to pay special attention to the development of the national sports," Yerlan Sydykov said.
During the meeting, the students were asked about the work of the sports section of the complex and their preparation for sports. According to them, comfortable conditions have been created in the “University Sports Centre” sports and recreation complex.
Thus, Aray Zhumabek, a second-year student of the Faculty of Social Sciences, said that she is studying to be a physical education teacher, has been playing basketball since she was five, is now a member of the ENU basketball team and participates in the World University Games.
"I dreamed of choosing this profession. My groupmate Ayaulym Muratkyzy and I come here and train twice a week, she plays for the basketball team of Uralsk and Astana. We have a lot of talented students at ENU, we have everything ahead of us," Aray Zhumabek says.
The university administration also held a meeting with the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and employees of the sports club. As it was noted, new departments have been opened, sports sections have been replenished with new equipment. New coaches have appeared in the staff, the issue of training masters of sports has been worked out.
Doszhan Ualkhanov, Director of the “Altai” Volleyball Club, was participating in the meeting. The volleyball club headed by him has achieved some success in a short time, won the National League and the Cup of Kazakhstan.
"The goal of our club is to form and develop a local volleyball school in Astana. We invited a specialist from Japan to coach the women's youth team. I should note that there are now many girls, school students, who want to enroll and study at ENU. In my opinion, they can form the backbone of strong national teams of the university in the future and bring tangible victories to the university," Doszhan Ualkhanov said.
