
ENU – the only university in Central Asia in TOP-50 of the world subject ranking

For the first time, the Kazakhstani education program entered TOP-50 of the international QS subject rating. The L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University has become the only university in Central Asia to be included in top fifty best universities in the world in the subject “Hospitality and Leisure Management”. In total, the indicators of about 5,000 universities from 149 countries were analyzed. The quality of the subjects taught in universities around the world was evaluated by the British agency Quacquarelli Symonds.
The results of the international subject ranking QS World University Rankings by Subjects 2024 are published today. According to the ranking results, the Eurasian National University not only achieved high results, but also expanded its representation to 20 subjects. The country’s leading university is represented in 17 subject and 3 industry rankings.
ENU is the leader among Kazakhstani universities in terms of the number of courses in the TOP-100 of the world ranking. 5 subjects are presented in the TOP-100 of the best this year – “Hospitality and Leisure Management” (49), “Art and Design” (range 51-100), “Linguistics” (69), “Modern Languages” (84) and “English language and Literature” (93).
ENU has demonstrated record success in the education program “Hospitality and Leisure Management” among 2,253 universities in the world and is the only one in Central Asia in the TOP-50. Last year, the university’s index in this subject was in the range of 51-100. High results were achieved due to significantly improved indicators for the number of citations per publication.
“The growth in the number of positions of Kazakhstani universities in subject rankings from 41 to 57 and industry ratings from 9 to 10, the expansion of their presence in the TOP-100 new rankings in a number of subjects, the impressive entry of the educationl program of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University “Hospitality and Leisure Management” in the TOP-50 best in the world, the debut of Mukhtar Auezov South Kazakhstan University in published ratings and a number of other significant achievements emphasize the professionalism of managers, faculty and staff in improving the global competitiveness of higher education institutions in the country. It is important to note that the increase in the number of citations per publication is combined with an unprecedented high proportion of publications by Kazakhstani authors in scientific journals of 1 and 2 quartiles,” Sergey Khristolyubov, QS Regional Director said.
According to many indicators, the L.N. Gumilyov ENU improved last year’s results by climbing dozens of steps: in the subject “Linguistics” it moved up from 94th to 69th position, “Modern Languages” – from 88th to 84th position, in the industry field “Engineering and Technology” it moved 200 positions ahead, taking 327th stand.
Compared to the last year, a significant increase in indicators was demonstrated by subjects “Archaeology”, “Art and Design”, “English Language and Literature”, “History”, “Modern Languages”, “Economics and Econometrics”, “Hospitality and Leisure Management”, “Engineering and Technology”.
For the first time, the world ranking includes subjects “Education” (TOP-400), “Sociology” (TOP-300) and “Electrical and Electronic Engineering” (TOP-530).
During the subject ranking, the university’s reputation among academic experts and employers, citation of scientific research by scientists, the Hirsch index of publications and the index of International the research network are assessed.
It should be noted that ENU has been present in the QS subject rankings since 2017.
