
The IV city Olympiad of young Geologists was held at ENU

The IV City Olympiad of Young Geologists among students of grades 10-11 was held on the basis of the L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University. The purpose of the event is to maintain interest in geological knowledge among graduates, as well as to conduct career guidance work.
The event was held in two languages in two stages: stage 1 - theoretical test, stage 2 - practical work on mineralogy. 80 young geologists from schools in the capital and regions of Kazakhstan took part in the Olympiad. The main topics of the Olympiad concerned mineralogy and petrography, endogenous and exogenous geological processes, namely volcanism, seismicity, glaciation, Aeolian, and aquatic processes.
According to the results of the competition, Yerasyl Omurtaev, a student of NIS Astana, was awarded a diploma of the first degree; second degree diplomas were awarded to Fariza Ramazanova, a student of NIS Astana and Olga Krivobokova from Uralsk, diplomas of the 3rd degree were awarded to Aslan Omarov, Ayzera Oraz ө to students of the NISAstana and Dmitry Justus from Kostanay.
The judging panel included: Dastan Makat, PhD, project geologist of ERG Exploration, Aigul Baydauletova - Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Aralbekova Mariyash - Associate professor of the Department of Physical and Economic Geography, chief judge of the Olympiad.
The winners were awarded diplomas and souvenirs.
The Olympiad was organized by the Career Guidance Department of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University together with the Zhas Geologist Corporate Foundation in cooperation with Kazakhmys Barlau LLP, ERG Exploration.
