The Faculty of Journalism and Political Science held the Republican Subject Olympiad

On April 26–27, the VII Republican Subject Olympiad in the field of «Publishing» was held, organized by the Department of Printing and Publishing of the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University.

Four teams from universities across the country took part in the two-day educational race. The teams «Zhardem» and «Shugyla» were selected from among 2-3–4 year students at the Department of Publishing, Editorial, and Design Art, Faculty of Journalism, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Well-known writers and publishing directors conducted the traditional Olympiad in the country. In particular, the director of the branch of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan in Astana, Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan, state youth «Daryn», laureate of the International Literary Prize «Alash» Dauletkerei Kaрuly chaired the jury, the head of the printing house named after L.N. Gumilev Telgozy Sanakovich, and the editor-in-chief of the Kazakh edition of the publishing house «Foliant» Farida Rakhimzhanovna took part in the competition and gave a fair assessment.

Professor Kairat Omirbaiuly, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science, opened the knowledge competition in the Scientific Library hall, wishing good luck to the organizers and participants. Professor Aigul Amirgalievna, the head of the Department of Publishing, Editorial, and Design Arts at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University's Faculty of Journalism, spoke with heartfelt congratulations and connected via the Zoom platform from Almaty. Members of the competition commission got acquainted with the past, present, and prospects of publishing and, blessing the youth, repeated the requirements and conditions of the educational competition, РһD Amangeldy Meiramuly, head of the department of printing and publishing.

Teams competed in three stages of the knowledge competition, which aimed to involve students in the publishing field and develop their professional and creative competencies. Before moving on to the main stages of the Olympiad, the teams «Kultegin», «Kolizhek», «Zhardem», and «Shugyla» introduced themselves and defended their motto and emblem.

At the first stage, the Olympiad participants prepared and presented an infographic design according to a special task in InDesign and other programs, explaining the main idea.

At the second stage, they answered test questions (in the disciplines «Theory and Practice of Editing», «Basics of Publishing», «Book Science», and «Modern Printing Technologies»).

The third stage of the competition continued with rewriting and editing the submitted text in a scientific, artistic, and journalistic (information, reportage) style.

As a result, the team "Zhardem" KazNU, named after Al-Farabi, won first place.

Team «Kultegin» L. N. Gumilyov ENU took second place.

The teams "Shugyla" and "Kokzhiek" shared third place.

All teams that participated in the knowledge competition were awarded special diplomas from the rector’s office named after L.N. Gumilyov and special prizes. The leaders of the treasury teams, senior teachers Darmen Smail and Nurlyayim Danaeva, and the team leader, senior teacher of the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science Gulzhazira Yertassova, were awarded letters of gratitude and presented with prizes.

The knowledge competition of future publishers ended with the beautiful songs and dances of students in the educational program «Publishing, named after L.N. Gumileva.
