Round table "Discussion of modern technologies"
On May 29 of this year, faculty members, graduates, and undergraduates of the Department of Geodesy and Cartography took part in a round table discussion at the Committee of Geodesy and Cartography of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter, «the Committee»). In addition to the experts of the committee, specialists of the RSE "National Center of Geodesy and Spatial Information" took part in the round table. This event was organized in fulfillment of some points of the «Memorandum of Mutual Cooperation between L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and the Committee of Geodesy and Cartography of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan» concluded on 09.06.2022.
The round table became a dialogue platform for discussing relevant issues in the field of geodesy and cartography, therefore, diploma works were selected concern specialists who are currently implementing the «National Spatial Data Infrastructure» project.
The report of the 1st year undergraduate Amanzholova A. (supervisor, Ph.D. Sagyndyk M) was devoted to mapping the flood situation in the Atbasar region.
The reports of 4 students, whose supervisor is senior lecturer Merkenov A., dedicated to the creation of the digital foundation of the ENU campus (Kaimoldayeva L), the study of the problems of point construction of Astana using GIS tools (student Zhumabekov D), the creation of a three-dimensional map of Astana based on data for the analysis of Video surveillance cameras (student Zhumazhanov M), the creation of a database residential complexes under construction in Astana using GIS and mapping of nearby social facilities (Kenesbek D).
The use of artificial intelligence in mapping was addressed by the work of student Masakbayev Sh. (supervisor is a senior lecturer Mustafina N.K.).
In addition, works were demonstrated on comparing the accuracy of surveys using GPS, BEIDOU, and GLONASS satellite systems (student Kasimov Sh), the geodetic transformation of coordinate systems (student Kanaeva (Amangeldy) A.), the head of two works is the teacher Nurbaev N.
During the event, professionals asked questions, which the students answered competently. The round table showed that our students can apply their knowledge in solving problems of employers' interest. Employers have expressed interest in our graduates and some of them received job offers.

In order for employers to be interested in our students, it is necessary for the University to purchase both software products and modern geodetic equipment.
