Professor of ENU passed in the USA International internship on Bolashak program «500 Scientists»

Beisenova Raikhan Rymbaevna, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor of the Environmental Management and Engineering Department of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, completed an International Internship under the Bolashak “500 Scientists” program from August 21, 2023 to August 20, 2024 at the Landscape Ecology and Ecosystem Research Laboratory of Michigan State University, USA.
Michigan State University is ranked 14th in the QS rankings for agricultural universities worldwide. The university has over 50,000 students and is the largest state university in Michigan and one of the “Greenest” universities in the United States.
The Landscape Ecology and Ecosystem Research Laboratory of the Geography Department at Michigan State University is headed by Professor Jiquan Chen, who is a mentor of R.R. Beisenova. His numerous scientific works are devoted to the study of climate change, and Professor Chen is also the head of many NASA projects on climate change. Beisenova Raikhan Rymbaevna is currently working with Professor Jiquan Chen on the adaptation mechanisms of the ecosystem to climate change, studies the impact of climate on the quality of surface and groundwater through the transformation of the amount of water resources. She also studies the potential of the ecosystem for the rational use of water resources by calculating transpiration and evaporation of water (Evapotranspiration) by environmental components. This area is of great importance for Kazakhstan, whose ecosystem potentials are currently not studied at all, given that Kazakhstan is a country with water shortage problems. During her internship at Michigan State University, R.R. Beisenova published 4 articles in highly cited journals and prepared 2 more articles for publication.
During the internship at Michigan State University, training courses for interns are also provided. Professor Beisenova R.R. is also engaged in the study and mastering of the R programming language for applied research, as well as Biophysical Models and Ecosystem Analysis using programs such as R Studio, SAS, Python. In our research environment, new technologies are very important, the introduction of artificial intelligence in the field of education and science, especially in applied research and science. The experience that the Bolashak program provides to Kazakhstani Scientists is invaluable, since it gives researchers and teachers the opportunity to discover new directions and methods for science and education at the global level.
