Scientists of the Department of Civil Engineering and Geotechnical Institute of ENU in MGSU with scientific reports and lectures

The II International Scientific and Practical Symposium “The Future of the Construction Industry: Challenges and Development Prospects” was held on September 16-21, 2024 at the National Research Moscow State Civil Engineering University (MGSU), Russia. As part of this symposium, an international conference “Soil Mechanics and Geotechnics in High-Rise and Underground Construction” was held in honor of Professor Z.G. Ter-Martirosyan. It should be noted that Dr. Tech.Sc., Professor Z.G. Ter-Martirosyan left a significant contribution to the construction field, during his career he achieved and became a laureate of many awards and prizes, including Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Honorary Builder of the Russian Federation, Head of the Department of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnics of MGSU.
Scientists and specialists from different countries: Indonesia, India, South Korea, the United States of America, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Belarus, China, Kazakhstan, Russia and other countries came to participate in the scientific conference.
The teaching staff of the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Department of “Civil Engineering” of the L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University Prof. A.Zh. Zhussupbekov, Ph.D A.Omarov and Ph.D A.S. Tulebekova also took part in the scientific event.
A.Z. Ter-Martirosyan chaired the organizing committee of the conference, deputy chairs S.I. Yevtushenko and G.O. Anzhelo, secretaries D.A. Denisova and A.S. Almakaeva, and coordinator M.M. Magomedov.
The main goal of the scientific conference is to ensure sustainable innovative development of the construction industry, to preserve the continuity of scientific schools, to form a new level of training of professional staff, and to strengthen scientific and business contacts.
The symposium began with a meeting of the MGSU Board of Trustees, where representatives and heads of the construction complex, the Moscow City Government, and construction, scientific, and design organizations interested in the use in practice of scientific and design developments of science.
Prof. P.A.Akimov, Rector of MGSU, made a welcoming speech at the opening of the Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnics, emphasizing the importance of the development of international cooperation and the priority of scientific and technical works in the field of construction.
The conference program included more than 25 plenary reports and more than 40 sectional reports. Scientists shared their experience in soil stabilization and consolidation, modeling of soil foundation and foundation performance, and experimental testing of soils.
The reports were made by leading scientists of the world universities, who also have invited professors of ENU: Prof. E.Ch.Shin “Case study development of underground tunnel construction technology in weakrock” (South Korea), Prof. V. Kaliakin “Assessment of model predictive capabilities for true triaxial stress states” (USA), Prof. M. Karkush "Load-settlement behavior of soft clay soil treated with magnetized water” (Iraq), Prof. F. Jafarzadeh "Geothermal structures: experimental insights into stress redistribution in 2x2 pile groups under asymmetrical thermal loading" (Iran), Prof. Ramli Nazir "Geotechnical design challenges in tropical zone" (Malaysia), Prof. Gökhan Baykal "Innovation and invention in geotechnical engineering" (Turkey), Prof. Lamyaa Najah "Reinforcement of gypseous soil by stone columns" (Iraq).
Scientists from China (Dr. D.Sh.Xu, Dr. Ankit Garg, Dr. Ch.Hou), Indonesia (Dr. A.Setiawan, Dr. Aksan Kawanda), and India (Dr. Divya Priya Balasubramani, Dr. Lalit Borana) also spoke about the possibilities and prospects for the application of new materials, digital construction methods.
The report on the complex analysis of bored piles on light rail rapid transit system construction site in Astana (Kazakhstan) was presented by the Director of the Geotechnical Institute of ENU Prof. A.Zh.Zhussupbekov.
Recommendations on the protection of earth embankments from flooding during the construction of highway in difficult soil conditions were presented by Professor of the department of “Civil Engineering” A.S.Tulebekova.
The determination of the bearing capacity of precast reinforced concrete joint pile foundations embedded in a layer, as predicted using dynamic and static tests based on ASTM standards, was discussed by PhD A. Omarov.
The participants had an opportunity to ask questions and exchange information. In the conclusion of the plenary and sectional reports, Professor R. A. Mangushev (SPbGASU, Russia) presented and gifted the scientists from other countries the first English-language edition of the "Geotechnical Engineer’s Handbook".
At the Research Institute of Experimental Mechanics and the Institute of Complex Security, participants were introduced to the facilities for testing large-scale structures and conducting fire resistance tests on building materials.
The MGSU Research Center presented the capabilities for assessing the technical condition of building structures, courtyards, and facilities. These included demonstrations of laboratories specializing in asphalt concrete, concrete, aggregates, and soils. The unique scientific installation - a large research gradient wind tunnel was demonstrated by the head of the laboratory for aerodynamic and aeroacoustic testing of building structures Dr. O.I.Poddaeva. Specialists from the leading universities of the world noted the importance and uniqueness of this complex for testing objects of high level of responsibility.
Participants had the opportunity to explore the unique high-rise structure of the Ostankino TV Tower, which stands at a height of 540 meters.
Rounding out the technical tour was the subway construction site.
At the end of the conference participants were invited to the international scientific conference to be held in SPbGASU in October, 2024 and to the international geotechnical conference on geoinformation databases, August 2025, Almaty, Kazakhstan.
During the conference was noted high organization of the scientific event and gratitude of the participants to the organizing committee, conference organizers, department of planning and development of scientific activities of MGSU University and volunteers.
