
ENU professor entered the top 2% of the world's best scientists for the third time according to the Stanford University ranking







Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor and Honorary Head of the General and Theoretical Physics Department of the L.N.Gumilyov ENU, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ratbai Myrzakulov entered the top 2% of the world's scientists for the third time according to the Stanford University rating for 2024.
The famous Kazakhstani theoretical physicist is represented in the both Stanford University rankings in terms of publication activity and citation in the Scopus database.
ENU Professor Ratbai Myrzakulov is included in two ratings as the most cited scientist over the past year, and in the list of the most cited scientists in the world throughout his career.
The results of the international ranking assessing the citation level of scientific research by scientists around the world were published in September this year. The sample is based on the work of 100,000 top scientists in 22 broad fields and 176 subfields.
It is worth noting that according to the well-known world scientific database Scopus, the Hirsch Index of Professor Myrzakulov is 51, the citation index is 9112 and the number of foreign articles is 329.
According to the Google Scholar database, the scientist's Hirsch index is 62, the citation index is 13611, the number of foreign articles is 338.
"The basis of national security lies in science. The development of scientific potential is one of the significant aspects of state independence. I consider my achievement to be the achievement of all scientists of Kazakhstan, of all Kazakhstani science," Ratbai Myrzakulov, Director of the ENU International Eurasian Center for Theoretical Physics said.
The theoretical physicist is widely known in Kazakhstan and abroad as the most cited scientist. For the largest number of scientific articles published in Springer publishing house on Central Asia, the scientist was recognized as the winner of the “Top Springer Author” award in 2015.
For high scientific performance in Central Asia, Ratbai Myrzakulov was awarded the "Leader of Science" award by Clarivate Analytics (Thomson Reuters).
In 2022, the scientist was awarded the international award “Scopus Awards Kazakhstan 2022” for special achievements in the field of scientific research.
For several years in a row, the professor has been heading the list of the 50 best university teachers of the Republic of Kazakhstan according to the NAAR agency.
According to Thomson Reuters, of the 12 articles by Kazakhstani scientists included in the 1% of the most cited articles in the world, 4 belong to Ratbai Myrzakulov.
In addition, the honorary head of the ENU General and Theoretical Physics Department is a laureate of the al-Farabi State Prize in science and technology, a laureate of the K.I.Satbayev Prize for the best research in the field of natural sciences, an honored worker of Kazakhstan and the owner of many other awards.
The "Myrzakulov equation" derived by the physicist, as well as the "Myrzakulov - Lakshmanan equation” and the theory of "Myrzakulov gravity" are recognized by the world scientific community.
Ratbai Myrzakulov is a six-time winner of the state scientific scholarship for scientists and specialists who have made a significant contribution to the development of science and technology (2004-2006), 2008-2010, 2012-2013, 2013-2014, 2015-2016, 2016-2017); Winner of the nomination "Researcher of the Year Year-Scopus Award” of the scientific and analytical platform Scopus (2018); For special achievements in scientific research, he was awarded the International Prize “Scopus Awards Kazakhstan 2022” in the field of physics and astronomy (November 15, 2022).
R.Myrzakulov graduated from the Physics Department of S.M. Kirov Kazakh State University in 1979. Between 1981 – 2006, he worked as a laboratory assistant at the High Energy Physics Institute and Physics and Technology Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, worked as an engineer, junior researcher, researcher, chief researcher and head of the laboratory. Between 1984 – 1988, he studied at the graduate school at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna, Russia) and in 1988 at the Lumumba Peoples’ Friendship University (Moscow, Russia) defended his candidate dissertation in the specialty “01.04.02 – Theoretical and Mathematical Physics”, in 2002 – his doctoral dissertation at KazSU in the specialty “01.04.02 – Theoretical Physics”. In 2006, he was invited to work at the L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and was appointed head of the General and Theoretical Physics Department. At the same time, the Eurasian International Center for Theoretical Physics was opened within the university, which is still headed by the professor. In 2010, R. Myrzakulov received the title of professor.
For many years he was a member of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Since 2016, he has been Chairman of the Dissertation Council of the L. N. Gumilyov ENU in physics, nuclear physics and technical physics. He has worked at international research centers and universities in the USA, Japan, India, Western Europe and Russia. In particular, he worked at the University of California (USA) for a year and a half. The Academician of the European Academy of Natural Sciences (Germany). For special achievements in scientific research, he was awarded the International Prize “Scopus Awards Kazakhstan 2022” in the field of physics and astronomy (November 15, 2022). In addition, according to the latest data from the Elsevier scientific publishing house, published on November 3, 2022, he entered for the third time the two rankings of "World's Top 2% Scientists” compiled by experts from Stanford University (2024).
Ratbai Myrzakulov is a member of the editorial board of several foreign scientific journals. He was elected a member of the editorial board of the world's leading scientific journal of mathematics "Partial Differential Equations in Applied Mathematics". Professor R. Myrzakulov makes a great contribution to the training of highly qualified scientific and pedagogical staff. More than 30 doctoral, candidate and PhD theses are defended under his leadership. He teaches in Kazakh, Russian and English at universities of the republic. He is the founder of two scientific schools of theoretical and mathematical physics in Kazakhstan, the head of a number of domestic and international scientific projects.
Currently, according to 3 international criteria for evaluating scientists (citation index, Hirsch index, number of articles in foreign journals with a high impact factor), Professor R. Myrzakulov ranks first among Kazakhstani and Central Asian scientists. Ratbai Myrzakulov's articles have been published in leading rating journals with a high impact factor in physics and mathematics, 7 monographs and more than 400 scientific papers have been published to date.
