FOR THE ANNIVERSARY OF PROFESSOR E.A. ZHURAVLEVA!

The staff of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics congratulates its head, Doctor of Philology, Professor Evgeniya Aleksandrovna Zhuravleva on her anniversary.

Evgeniya Aleksandrovna Zhuravleva is an experienced leader, a recognized scientist, an excellent teacher and mentor, a person of high moral standing.

Education and career

In 1988, Zhuravleva E.A. graduated from Ivanovsky State University (Ivanovo, RSFSR), successfully mastered the specialty «Russian language and literature» and received the qualification «Philologs. Lecturer».

The main dates of scientific activity of the scientist are:

1998 - Defense of the candidate thesis,

2004 - Academic Associate Professor,

2007 - Doctoral thesis defense,

2011 - Academic title of Professor of Linguistics.

Both dissertations were defended at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, on the specialty 10.02.01 - Russian language (Almaty, K. A.).

Evgeniya Alexandrovna’s career as a teacher of higher education and manager in education began at the S. Ualikhanov Kokshetau State University, where she worked as a teacher from 1988 to 2008, senior teacher, Associate Professor of the Department of Russian Philology, from 2003 to 2007 - head of the science department, from 2004 to 2007 - academic secretary of the university. During this time, she gained a great experience in pedagogical, organizational and administrative work, which allowed her to head the department of Russian philology in 2009, and then since 2010 to the present time - Department of theoretical and applied linguistics of the L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University. 

Scientific achievements and international publications

Zhuravleva E.A. published more than 300 scientific works, 12 of them are monographs, textbooks and dictionaries. A number of scientific researches of the scientist has been published in scientific journals of Russia, USA, Germany, Great Britain and other countries, including specialized international journals, in ranking publications included in the databases Web of Science and Scopus.

The scientific interests of Professor Zhurvaleva E.A. are related to problems of Cognitive linguistics, Sociolinguistics and Psycholinguistics, as well as to research on Applied lexicography and Phonetics.

Pedagogy and mentoring

Evgeniya Alexandrovna is a recognized teacher and mentor whose lectures and practical classes cover special bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral courses. Her approach to teaching is based on focusing on the needs of each student and developing the scientific potential of the students. Many of her students successfully defended their PhD theses, becoming worthy representatives of science and education in Kazakhstan.

As the head of the department, Zhuravleva E.A. is directly involved in the development of educational programs, new disciplines to introduce them into the educational process at philological specialties. For many years she has been teaching a course in Phonetics to first-year students, where theoretical foundations are combined with practical assignments, which allows students to understand more deeply the specifics of the sound structure of language.

Thanks to her support, students actively participate in international scientific projects, internships and conferences and represent Kazakh science on the international scene. Under the scientific guidance of Evgeniya Alexandrovna they gain valuable experience and confidence in their own abilities, which contributes to their successful professional development and personal growth.

Grants and international cooperation

Evgeniya Alexandrovna is the holder of a number of prestigious grants, including grants from the «Soros - Kazakhstan» foundation (1999, 2001), state grant «Best University teacher» for 2006 (2005), state grant «Best university teacher» for 2015 (2014), Erasmus+ Mobility Grant for lectures at the University of Dresden (Germany) (2014, 2015, 2018, 2019), Erasmus+ Mobility Grant for lectures at the University of Gdansk (Poland) (2024).

Evgeniya Alexandrovna was also the leader and participant of fundamental and risk projects carried out under the programs of competitions MES RK (2008 - 2017).

Professor E.A. Zhuravleva annually speaks at international forums in neighboring countries (Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan) and far abroad (China, Germany, Bulgaria, Estonia, Germany, India, Greece, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Italy, Spain, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, Turkey). 

Awards and recognition

For her talent and long-term work, Evgeniya Alexandrovna was awarded: «For achievements in the development of science of the Republic of Kazakhstan» (2008), 3 certificates of the Ministry of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan (2009 - 2, 2012 - 1), diploma of the Russian University of Friendship of Nations (2012), Certificate of the Russian Center for Science and Culture of the Representation of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Kazakhstan (2012, 2014), letter of thanks from the rector of the Tulsky State Pedagogical University named after L.N. Tolstoy (2014), Letter of Thanks from the Rector of the State Institute of Russian Language named after A.S. Pushkin (2017), medal «MEDAL KOMISJIEDUKACJINARODOWEJ» (2017, Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Poland), Letter of Thanks from Kazan (Privolzhsky) of the Federal University (2018), gold medal of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan «Birlik» (2020), medal of ENE «Lev Gumilyov» (2021).

Public service

Evgeniya Alexandrovna Zhuravleva is not just a successful scientist and teacher, but also an active public figure who has made a significant contribution to the development of science and philological education in Kazakhstan and beyond. Her public activities cover a number of key areas, including membership in trade unions, editorial boards, organizing committees of scientific conferences, as well as participation in dissertations and expert councils:  Evgeniya Alexandrovna is a member of Kazakhstanian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (since 1998); chairman of the editorial board of the scientific collection (ENU, 1998-2024); organizer of international conferences (ENU, 1998 - 2024); member of the Thesis council D 14A.01.22 at Al-Farabi KazNU (2008 - 2010); member of expert commissions MES RK, «KAZTEST», «Textbook», «Daryn», member of the thesis board D 14A.01.22 at L.N. Gumilyov ENU.
