
Students of ENU and Xi'an International Studies University are building bridges of friendship












The L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University hosted an event "Symphony of the Silk Road, a Global Harmonious Melody" at as part of the visit of the delegation of the Xi'an International Studies University (PRC). The event was held within the framework of cultural exchange between Kazakhstan and China. The program included performances by students of Xi'an International Studies University and the Chinese Philology Department of ENU’s Faculty of Philology.
The guests from China were welcomed by the ENU Director of Social and Civic Development Zhambyl Tlepov. He noted that ENU is actively implementing interstate youth scientific and educational cooperation with China, stressing that modern challenges require joining efforts to find new growth points for joint projects.
"The current event contributes to the development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and China, strengthening friendship between the student youth of the both countries. Thanks to such initiatives, our students establish contacts, create joint projects, and hold events, including cultural ones, that bring them closer together. Our partners from Xi'an International Studies University are with us today. Their contribution to this event reflects the strong ties between our institutions and countries. bEducation and culture know no borders," Zh.Tlepov said.
A representative of the Xi'an International Studies University also made a welcoming speech, noting that the cultural exchange event between students of the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Kazakhstan is aimed at ensuring that the youth of China and Kazakhstan better learn the culture of their countries, strengthen friendship and broaden their horizons.
Introductory videos about ENU, Shaanxi Province and Xi'an International Studies University were shown during the event.
Also, youth representatives from Shaanxi Province and ENU students spoke on topics related to the history, culture and development of the Great Silk Road. Thus, students of the ENU’s Chinese Philology Department shared the unique features of Kazakh culture. Yerkenur Yermakova spoke about the sacred meaning of the customs of "Bata Beru" and "Syrga Salu", Ayaulim Millat presented the history of Kazakh music to everyone, and Dariya Talgatova initiated us into the history of Turkestan city. The final theme, which tells about the "One Belt, One Road" program, once again reminded everyone present of the long-standing and close friendship between Kazakhstan and China.
The event continued in Ustaz and Passionar coworking spaces, where the rich traditions of both China and Central Asia were demonstrated.
Thus, in the Ustaz coworking, the event participants were presented with the intangible cultural heritage of China: a lacquer fan, an exhibition of Chinese and Central Asian paintings and calligraphy was held. The Passionar center hosted dance shows, where Kazakh and Chinese traditional choreography were presented, and a musical concert where students played the guqin, the guitar, the dombra.
A tour of the campus was organized for guests from China, during which they visited the ENU sports complex, the Museum of Writing and the Otyrar Library.
Let’s note that Xi'an International Studies University, founded in 1952, is one of the four oldest educational institutions for the study of foreign languages in China. It has 24,000 students in Chinese and English.
In 2006, ENU signed an agreement on the establishment of the Confucius Institute, whose work is currently focused on teaching the Chinese language and studying Chinese culture. Foreign specialists from this university are also involved in teaching the language. Currently involved: Yang Lei, Zhou Mingyue, Zhu Cuimei, Zhang Xiao Fei, Liang Mengxing. In 2015, an agreement on educational, scientific and cultural cooperation was signed.
