The city stage of the Republican Chemistry Olympiad

On January 6-7, 2025, the city stage of the republican subject Olympiad for gifted schoolchildren in chemistry was held in Astana. This important event was organized on the basis of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University.

It is worth noting that Astana Daryn and the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University jointly held chemistry Olympiads in 2024 as part of a memorandum of cooperation signed between them. This year, the cooperation continued at a high level.

130 students of grades 9, 10 and 11 of city schools took part in the Olympiad. The participants demonstrated their knowledge and skills in the field of chemistry in the framework of theoretical and practical tours.

The theoretical tour was aimed at testing a deep understanding of the basic principles of chemical science and their application. At this stage, students solved complex problems in organic and inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, and chemical bonds. The theoretical tour contributed to the development of logical thinking and the strengthening of scientific knowledge of the participants.

The practical tour was aimed at testing the practical skills of students in the field of chemistry. In this tour, the participants carried out qualitative and quantitative analysis of chemicals, performed laboratory work with precision and attention. As part of the tasks, the titration method was used to determine the concentration of solutions. Each participant carefully analyzed the results of the reactions and justified the data obtained from a scientific point of view.

The teachers and teaching and support staff of the Chemistry Department of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University provided great assistance in holding the Olympiad at a high level. They helped with the preparation of the experimental tour assignment, and ensured the organization of the event.

This Olympiad provided students with the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities in a combination of theory and practice. The winners will defend the honor of Astana city at the republican stage. The Olympiad was aimed at developing the creative abilities of young chemists and increasing their interest in science.
