ENU’s Scientific Research Institute “Abai Academy” informed about the results of its work for 2024 and shared its prospects for the future

The L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University hosted a reporting event dedicated to the results of the work of the “Abai Academy” Scientific Research Institute for 2024 and plans for the future, as well as a presentation of books published on the basis of the project “Modern Kazakhstan and Abai Kunanbaiuly’s Legacy in the Aspect of Social Sciences and Humanities”.

Scientists, researchers, Abai scholars, ENU teachers and representatives of the creative intelligentsia from other regions joined the event via Zoom.

As you know, in 2020, on behalf of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, on the eve of the 175th anniversary of the great poet, the “Abai Academy” Scientific Research Institute was founded at the L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. During this period, the Abai Academy has developed and published 90 scientific and educational books in special series. The publication of 90 new works so far shows the uniqueness and scope of large-scale works in the field of Abai studies. Today’s presentation is an indicator of this result.

"In 2024, in order to promote Abai’s legacy, the Academy implemented the project “Modern Kazakhstan and Abai Kunanbaiuly’s Legacy in the Aspect of Social Sciences and Humanities” on the basis of a state order from the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Within the framework of the project, a special creative group consisting of leading scientists from The L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, as well as scientists from the country, actively participated in the preparation of research books, conducting socio-analytical research under the guidance of the project’s scientific supervisor, the editorial board, responsible editors, and expert scientists. This is one of the most important and large-scale works on the comprehensive study and promotion of Abai’s heritage.

In his New Year's greetings to the people of Kazakhstan, Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted: “We must honorably celebrate the 180th anniversary of the great Abai.” That is why we are going to present a scientific and intellectual public report on the work and results of the Abai Academy in 2024, as well as share our plan for further directions.

Abai studies is a complex branch of science aimed at nationalization or personification. It is a continuous school of knowledge and taste, intelligence and skills. Therefore, I would like to express my gratitude to all the colleagues who assisted in the publication of scientific and educational works within the framework of the Abai Academy projects," the scientific supervisor of the project, Academician Yerlan Sydykov said.

The director of the Abai Academy, Zhandos Aubakir, made a presentation on the annual report and the prospects of the scientific research work.

There was also a presentation of six books with the participation of the authors: Doctors of Philology, ENU Professors Zhanat Askerbekkyzy and Sagynbai Zhumagul, Deputy Director of the M. Auezov Institute of Literature and Art, Candidate of Philology Almira Kairtayeva, PhD Leila Demesinova, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor Laura Orazgaliyeva and abai expertZhandos Aubakir.

"Since the scientific direction of the Academy is the study, research, promotion and popularization of Abai’s heritage in continuity with the spiritual, cultural and intellectual development of new Kazakhstan, our goal is to become a leading scientific institute in the field of Abai studies.

As you can see, the Abai Academy is working to revive creative contacts with the centers of Abai studies in our country and systematize joint work. Our future direction is to coordinate the centers of Abai studies abroad with the Academy," Zhandos Aubakir, Director of the Abai Academy Scientific Research Institute said.

At the end of the event, ENU Rector Yerlan Sydykov presented a Letter of Thanks to the group of scientists for their contribution to the implementation of the scientific project “Modern Kazakhstan and Abai Kunanbaiuly’s Legacy in the Aspect of Social Sciences and Humanities” at the “Abai Academy” Scientific Research Institute and the promotion of the great poet’s legacy as the cultural capital of our people.
