A workshop titled “Practical Steps for Applying to Horizon Europe” took place at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ENU). The event was organized by the ENU Department of Innovation Development in collaboration with JSC “Science Fund” under the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
During the workshop, participants discussed key aspects of joining the Horizon Europe program. Asel Dzheksembaeva, Director of the ENU Department of Innovation Development, emphasized the program’s significance for advancing science and technology both in Europe and beyond. Aliya Sembayeva, Deputy Chairman of the Board of JSC “Science Fund,” highlighted that the program particularly supports research in new technologies, including low-carbon solutions and recycling processes.
Fatikha Aubakirova, Corporate Communications Manager at JSC “Science Fund,” provided insights into the structure of applications, the submission process, and common mistakes in preparing project proposals. During an interactive session, participants explored opportunities for finding partners and engaging in international projects.
Horizon Europe is the world’s largest initiative for funding research and innovation, aimed at supporting scientific projects, technological developments, and innovations that address key social and environmental challenges. The program also fosters the development of new technologies, startups, and small and medium-sized enterprises. It funds research across various fields, from fundamental sciences to applied technologies. A key aspect of the program is promoting international collaboration among universities, research institutions, companies, and other stakeholders.
Horizon Europe runs from 2021 to 2027 with a total budget of approximately €100 billion. To participate, Kazakhstani researchers must go through several stages, including preparing competition documentation, familiarizing themselves with program requirements, and submitting applications.
The workshop attracted significant interest from university representatives across Kazakhstan, as well as scientists and researchers eager to participate in one of the world’s largest scientific programs.
