International Subject Olympiad "Physchemist-2025" named after Professor Ospanov Kh.K.

From March 12 to March 13, 2025, the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted the international subject Olympiad "Physchemist-2025", dedicated to the memory of the outstanding scientist, Professor Habibulla Kusainovich Ospanov.
Khabibulla Kusainovich Ospanov (1932-2022) was an outstanding scientist who devoted his life to the study of thermodynamic and kinetic processes in the field of selective dissolution of mineral raw materials. He is the author of the first textbook on physical chemistry in Kazakh, the winner of the Platinum Tarlan Award, as well as the owner of four world discoveries. In 2011, he was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Under his leadership, dozens of candidates and doctors of sciences have been trained, who have contributed to the development of chemical science in Kazakhstan.
The Olympiad brought together talented students from different countries, giving them the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and research skills in the field of physical and analytical chemistry. At the Olympiad, tasks were given mainly on the topics of chemical thermodynamics and kinetics.
The Olympiad was held in two stages:
The first stage was testing, which included 30 questions. The maximum score is 30, and the execution time is 30 minutes.
The second stage is the calculation tasks, which include 3 complex chemical calculations. The maximum score is 70, and the completion time is 180 minutes.
The format of the event is online and offline, which made it possible to attract a wide range of participants.
The Organizing Committee of the Olympiad included leading scientists from al-Farabi Kazakh National University and other leading universities in Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The jury consisted of:
• Ospanova A.K. – Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University
• Aubakirov E.A. – Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Head of the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis and Petrochemistry, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University
• Seilkhanova G.A. – Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University
• T.T. Mashan – Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Acting Professor of the Department of Chemistry of the Eurasian National University
• Beisembayeva K.A. – Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry of the Eurasian National University
Tosmaganbetova K.S. – PhD, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry of the Eurasian National University
The Olympiad has become a platform for identifying the best young chemists. The team of participants included 3rd-year students of the Eurasian National University: Tamerlane Masagutov, Maksat Ergashov, Talipov Nurgali, Beketov Zhuldyz, Koyshybaykyzy Tansholpan.
Tamerlane Masagutov was particularly distinguished, taking 3rd place. He was awarded a diploma and a cash prize from the sponsors of the Olympics.
The Physico-Chemical 2025 Olympiad not only raised the level of training of participants, but also contributed to the development of scientific cooperation, popularization of chemical sciences and strengthening academic ties between educational institutions of different countries.
Science is the path to discoveries and new achievements!
