Republican contest of scientific projects of schoolchildren: achievements of young researchers in chemistry

From February 18 to February 21, 2025, teachers of the Department of Chemistry of the L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University took part in the evaluation and examination of works in the field of chemistry presented at the republican competition of scientific projects in general education subjects organized by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Daryn" in Aktobe.

This important event has become a large-scale platform for testing the knowledge, scientific research and research skills of students from all over the republic.

As part of the chemistry competition, 126 scientific projects were presented, including:

• Group work – 26
• Individual works – 100
• Total number of participants – 152

At the first stage, all the works were peer-reviewed and received reviews with recommendations. At the next stage of the competition, the scientists, as members of the jury, evaluated the students' projects and determined the winners. As a result, 24 students won prizes and 7 students received diplomas.

Scientific papers can be grouped into the following five areas:

1. Ecology and environmental protection

• Wastewater treatment
• Research on the effects of harmful substances on the environment
• Study of properties of vermicompost and humic substances

2️. Phytochemistry and biotechnology

• Analysis of the chemical composition of plants
• Production of biologically active compounds
• Research of medicinal plants

3️. Polymers, nanomaterials and sorbents

• Synthesis of nanostructured materials
• Study of polymer properties
• Development of new sorbents

4️. Energy and renewable resources

• Biofuel production
• Production of carbon materials for supercapacitors
• Development of energy-efficient materials

5️. Innovative chemical technologies and materials science

• Recycling of metallurgical and coal industry waste
• Creation of corrosion inhibitors based on natural raw materials
• Development of new methods of chemical technologies

This competition provides an opportunity for young researchers to present their scientific developments, contribute to solving current problems and take steps towards future scientific achievements.

The jury of the competition highly appreciated the efforts of the young scientists and expressed confidence in their future success in scientific research and achievements.
