The L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University hosted a meeting with the State Prize winner, professor, literary critic Kulbek Yergobek, organized by ENU’s cultural and educational association "Kausar".
The event host, head of the cultural and educational association "Kausar" Kenzhegali Myrzhykbai told about the life, work and creativity of the guest of the event.
"Kulbek Yergobek is one of the brightest representatives of modern Kazakh literature, a laureate of the State Prize. He worked in the newspapers “Yegemen Kazakhstan”, “Zhas Alash”, at the S. Mukanov House Museum, was a university vice-rector, is currently a member of the Management Board of the Writers’ Union of Kazakhstan – secretary, adviser to the rector of the Uzbekali Zhanibekov South Kazakhstan Pedagogical University,” K.Myrzhykbai said, adding that to date the critic has published about 70 books, and his works have been translated and published in Russian, Turkic, Kyrgyz, Tatar, Bashkir, Uzbek and Turkmen.
In turn, the guest of the event Kulbek Yergobek expressed gratitude to the members of the cultural and educational association “Kausar”.
“I can’t say anything but thank the members of the “Kausar” cultural and educational association of the Eurasian National University, who have read my works written over the years. I failed to come twice, and the third time, I finally had the opportunity to meet you. I know and keep track of all the events held at the Eurasian National University, and I definitely try to attend them. Kausar always organizes meetings with prominent representatives of literature and art, and I am very grateful to the organizers for inviting me,” the critic said.
During the meeting, the literary critic was asked questions on a variety of topics, including the current state of the Writers’ Union of Kazakhstan:
“During the Soviet period, the Writers’ Union had many privileges. However, in the era of the market, the Kazakhstan Writers’ Union really had a difficult time. Seven or eight years ago, the number of writers was 800, now there are more than 1,000. But it’s not quantity that matters, it’s quality. Now the Writers’ Union of Kazakhstan is facing great challenges – to help unlock the creative potential of young talents and provide them with all possible support. There are many events and things to do. In this regard, I think that the work of the Kazakhstan Writers’ Union will be intensified,” K.Yergobek said.
There was also talk about the influence of children’s literature.
“The future of the nation is children. Kazakh literature will not develop without the development of children’s literature. Why are there no such classics of children’s literature as Utebai Turmanzhanov, Anuarbek Duissenbiyev, Zhakan Syzdykov, Muzafar Alimbayev today?” - Kulbek Yergobek asked.
Professors Serik Negimov, Rakhimzhan Turysbek, the author of the state emblem, Zhandarbek Malibekov, and diplomat-scientist Sailau Batyrshauly also expressed their sincere wishes, noting his talent as a literary critic and scientific research.
At the end of the evening, writer Amirzhan Alpeisov and veteran diplomat Sailau Batyrshauly presented Kulbek Yergobek with their books published in recent years.
On behalf of ENU Rector Yerlan Sydykov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Ardak Beisenbai presented K.Yergobek with the Kultegin medal for his contribution to national education and culture.
