
ENU held an International Olympiad for Pre-Service English Language Teachers









ENU hosted II International Olympiad for future English language teachers – students of the educational program group “Training of Foreign Language Teachers (English Language)”.
Betweeb April 8 and 12, 2025, the faculty of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department, Graduate School of Education, conducted two rounds of the Olympiad in an online format. The participants were students from 8 universities representing 5 countries: Francisk Skorina Gomel State University, Belarus; The Stoletovs Vladimir State University, Russia; Urgench State University, Uzbekistan; Ajiniyaz Nukus State Pedagogical Institute, Uzbekistan; Bishkek State University, Kyrgyzstan; Osh State University, Kyrgyzstan; L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Kazakhstan.
The opening ceremony of the Olympiad took place on the Zoom platform on February 8, 2025, where the Director of the Graduate School of Education, Baubek Somzhurek, welcomed the participants of the pedagogical competition, their mentors, and instructors, and wished all contestants success.
The Olympiad lasted for 4 days, with more than 100 participants, primarily international students taking part in two rounds:
Round 1 – Interview, in which participants introduced themselves to the jury in English and answered questions related to foreign language teaching methodology (specifically, English language teaching).
Round 2 – solving a pragma-professional task in English, where each contestant was assigned a pedagogical problem–situation to resolve in the presence of the competition jury, using a random number generator.
After the tabulation committee completed its work, the following results were announced:
I Degree Diploma – Nikita Ostreyko, student of Francisk Skorina Gomel State University, Belarus (95 out of 100 points);
I Degree Diploma – Rayhon Matnazarova, student of Urgench State University, Uzbekistan (95 out of 100 points);
I Degree Diploma – Maftuna Juraeva, student of Nukus State Pedagogical Institute, Uzbekistan (95 out of 100 points);
II Degree Diploma – Aleksandra Lukina, student of Vladimir State University, Russia (90 out of 100 points)
II Degree Diploma – Muslima Matlatipova, student of Urgench State University, Uzbekistan (90 out of 100 points);
II Degree Diploma – Anara Ruslanova, student of Osh State University, Kyrgyzstan (90 out of 100 points);
II Degree Diploma – Sabina Iskakova, student of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Kazakhstan (90 out of 100 points);
II Degree Diploma – Nikita Verstak, student of Gomel State University, Belarus (85 out of 100 points);
III Degree Diploma – Elizaveta Palatnikova, student of Vladimir State University, Russia (85 out of 100 points);
III Degree Diploma – Sevinch Orynbayeva, student of Nukus State Pedagogical Institute, Uzbekistan (85 out of 100 points);
III Degree Diploma – Iskhak Kamytov, student of Osh State University, Kyrgyzstan (85 out of 100 points);
III Degree Diploma – Nelli Akhunbaeva, student of Bishkek State University, Kyrgyzstan (85 out of 100 points);
III Degree Diploma – Iroda Kurbonova, student of the Uzbek-Finnish Pedagogical Institute, Uzbekistan (85 out of 100 points).
We congratulate the winners of the International Olympiad for future English language teachers and express our sincere gratitude to their mentors for their guidance and preparation.
Reference: The first International Olympiad for students of the educational program group "Training of Foreign Language Teachers (English Language)" was held in 2021. Based on the suggestion of the participants and their mentors, it has been declared an annual event, and the 3rd Olympiad will take place in 2026 as part of the ENU Science Decade – 2026.
