Unknown fates of ACWTM prisoners will be investigated

The unknown fates of the prisoners of the Akmola camp of the wives of traitors to the Motherland will be investigated by historians and students of The Eurasian National University.
This was agreed upon by Chairman of the Management Board – Rector of The L.N. Gumilyov ENU Yerlan Sydykov, on the one hand, and Sergey Solodnikov, acting on the basis of the charter and on behalf of the Director of the Memorial and Museum Complex of Victims of Political Repression and Totalitarianism “ACWTM” of MSE “Directorate of United Museums” of Astana Akimat during the signing of the memorandum.
"Most of the fate of the ACWTM prisoners has not yet been investigated. We need to study their biographies, relatives, and their memories. There are many aspects that require in-depth research. Scientists and students visiting this museum will find and dedicate their scientific topics to this.
The purpose of the memorandum is to support the museum by scientists and its further development to the level of a world-class museum.
Secondly, the organization of an internship for future specialists – current students who will work and conduct research in this place. In addition, the organization of expeditions for all university students to this museum.
This is necessary in order to preserve knowledge about difficult periods of our past in the minds and hearts of generations through historical memory. Only then can we prevent the recurrence of such tragedies,” ENU Rector Yerlan Sydykov said.
It is worth noting that within the framework of cooperation, the parties will also implement joint research projects, publish scientific publications, organize joint scientific events, conduct internships and placement for students.
“Promising cooperation with The Eurasian National University is, first of all, the education of our youth. There is both patriotism and memory here, so that such horrors will not be repeated in the future. Secondly, it is exploration work: writing scientific articles, making films and a large amount of diverse work,” Sergey Solodnikov emphasized.
The event was attended by leading historians and teachers.
