Future tourism professionals in action: educational and introductory practice of ENU students in the recreation area «Golden Pheasant»

First-year students of the educational program «Tourism» of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University completed an educational and introductory practice in one of the most picturesque active recreation areas – «Golden Pheasant», located near the capital.
This practice has become for students not only the first real trip to the field, but also a real immersion in their future profession. Over the course of several busy days, students, under the guidance of teachers of the "Tourism" department and experienced specialists of the recreation area, practice the basic skills necessary for every professional in the tourism and hospitality industry.
The practice is based on the principle of "learning through experience", where students not only receive theoretical knowledge, but also apply it in practice. The program includes:
- organizing and conducting active forms of tourism;
- overcoming natural obstacles;
- setting up tents and organizing a tourist camp;
- providing first aid in the field;
- orienteering using a map and compass;
- studying the principles of sustainable tourism and eco-safety.
Particular attention is paid to teamwork, leadership and interaction in stressful situations - competencies that are extremely important for working in the tourism industry. Many students spend the night in tents for the first time, make fires, cross streams and participate in rope courses, forming self-confidence and understanding the intricacies of the profession.
Teachers note that such practices not only develop applied skills, but also strengthen the professional motivation of students. «When students encounter real situations and learn to find solutions in natural conditions, this is a completely different level of awareness of their future profession. Many of them understand for the first time what it means to be not just a tourist, but an organizer and guide to the world of adventures,» says Aibek Marat, senior lecturer at the Tourism Department.
The management of the «Golden Pheasant» recreation area is also actively involved in the educational process. Instructors share their experience of working with tourists, talk about the inner workings of organizing active recreation, and reveal the nuances of safety, marketing, and seasonal planning.
The internship will last until June 5 and will end with a final exam and students’ reflection on the skills they have acquired. Participants will gain not only practical experience, but also unforgettable memories, which, according to the students themselves, have already become an important part of their professional path.
L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University continues to train highly qualified specialists in the field of tourism, creating conditions for each student to unlock their potential through real practices and interaction with the industry.
