ENU has graduated first AI specialists

Artificial Intelligence Technology Department, Faculty of Information Technology of the Eurasian National University, has graduated its first specialists in the field of artificial intelligence. They were 28 bachelor's degree graduates.
It is worth noting that ENU’s education program "Artificial Intelligence Technologies" was started in 2020 due to the Atlas of New Professions in Kazakhstan.
"When we launched a new specialty 5 years ago, we predicted that AI specialists would be in demand in the near future, and we were not mistaken. If in the first year of opening we recruited only one group of students, then over the following years the number of people willing to study artificial intelligence increased fourfold," Bibigul Razakhova, Head of ENU’s Artificial Intelligence Technology Department says.
During the four years of the bachelor's studies, students studied machine learning, data analysis, ontological engineering, application development of neural systems, and natural language processing in the field of computational linguistics. They also completed internships at national and private IT companies and centers.
It is worth noting that this education program is accredited by the international agency ASIIN.
The education program was developed by the university together with employers, taking into account their requests.
"Mastering artificial intelligence technologies is not an easy task. But it’s this complexity that makes it interesting. My profession gives me a constant opportunity for intellectual growth. In the learning process, a good combination of theory and practice was created. We have developed real-world projects using tools such as Python, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, and PyTorch. Thanks to the laboratory and course work, we have the opportunity to apply our knowledge in practice. In addition, participation in teamwork, the implementation of scientific projects, participation in hackathons, as well as studying in Turkey under the academic mobility program have gained a lot of experience," Dayana Ospanova, a graduate, said.
In the future, Dayana wants to work as an expert engineer in the field of artificial intelligence and open her own startup, implement socially significant projects.
This specialty is studied at ENU not only by Kazakhstani, but also by foreign students from the CIS countries.
Among the department teachers are foreign scientists from leading universities of the USA, China and Malaysia.
The scientists of the department are the authors of innovative developments, such as the analogue of the Kazakh GPT chat and the first automatic system for recognizing the Kazakh sign language.
