Field practice in botany (2024-2025 academic year)

Under the guidance of the educational field practice supervisors — Candidate of Biological Sciences at the Department of General Biology and Genomics, A. D. Dukenbayeva, and PhD, Associate Professor A. D. Spanbayev — students of the Educational Programme Biology took part in the educational field practice on the subject of Botany. Three groups participated: Bio-11, Bio-12, and Bio-13. The practice was held in the territory of the recreation area "Golden Pheasant," Akmola Region, Koyandy village.
During the educational field practice, first-year students applied the theoretical knowledge acquired during lectures and laboratory classes and deepened their understanding in the fields of plant anatomy, morphology, and systematics by studying the flora of six ecosystems: forest, forest edge, steppe, meadow, coastal areas, and the recreation area itself.

Throughout the practice, students studied the taxonomic diversity of plants, their families, growing conditions, morphological and anatomical characteristics, and their adaptations to specific environmental conditions. Seasonal changes, reproduction methods, and seed and fruit dispersal were also observed. A comprehensive study of the region’s flora was made possible through the collection of over 100 herbarium specimens. Students learned the specifics of herbarium preparation, including drying, pressing, and preparing materials such as herbarium folders, nets, and additional equipment.
In addition to botanical studies, the participating groups actively engaged in organizing and taking part in sports, recreational, and educational activities.

The students acquired new practical skills and reinforced the theoretical material learned at the university. They also developed social and communication skills by working collaboratively in groups.

The educational field practice significantly contributed to the holistic development of the students — both cognitively and socially. The skills acquired during the practice will have a lasting impact and support their future professional development.
