ENU’s Eurasian Climate Talks Summer School came to its end

The L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University hosted the closing of the Eurasian Climate Talks Summer Climate School and the presentation of graduation certificates to its participants, students and university teachers. The certificates were presented by ENU’s Vice Rector for Strategic Development and Internationalization Duman Aitmagambetov.
The Eurasian Climate Talks Summer Climate School was organized with the assistance of the German Embassy in Kazakhstan in order to deepen students' knowledge of climate policy and nationally determined contributions, as well as stimulate discussions on important topics involving representatives of industry companies.
During the week, 26 university students, including students from Ethiopia, Yemen, Nigeria, Belgium, Afghanistan, Mongolia, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, had a unique opportunity to study one of the most pressing issues of our time - climate change and the search for solutions.
Within the framework of the Summer School, lectures were given by leading experts in the field of climatology, economics, sustainable development and public policy. Issues of climate change and the process of transition to green energy in Kazakhstan, water security, environmental assessment of pyrolyzed mixed plastic waste, and natural solutions to combat climate change were discussed.
At the end of the training, student defended their projects on solutions to environmental issues.
The participants of the summer school participated in planting trees on ENU’s territory, as well as in an environmental campaign to collect plastic bottles, and visited the furniture workshop of the university.
According to Hemra Parrykov, a student from Turkmenistan, they received a lot of useful information about climate change during their studies at the summer school.
"Thanks to ENU’s leadership and the German Embassy in Kazakhstan, for the first time we had the opportunity to participate in the summer climate school, where we gained a broader vision of climate change education and learned how to solve them. The lectures of the speakers were quite interesting and informative. I think ENU will continue to hold similar events to enhance students’ knowledge of global climate change, which also applies to Central Asia,” H.Parrykov said.
Nazira Tnymbayeva, a 4th year student of ENU’s International Law Department:
"The series of lectures held as part of the summer school was quite informative. I was able to expand my basic knowledge on climate change issues in more depth, for example, on waste and greenhouse gases. I also want to mention the excellent organization of the summer school."
It should be noted that ENU will hold similar summer climate schools in Pavlodar and Semey.
