
The geography students completed practical training in socio-economic and industrial facilities of the Pavlodar region

From May 26 to June 5, 2025, students of the 3rd year of the educational program 6B05209 – Geography of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University completed an internship at the University of Toraigyrov in Pavlodar.
Professional industrial practice is an important and integral part of the training program for future geographers, as it allows them to consolidate theoretical knowledge in real conditions and form professional skills. The purpose of the practice is to study the objects of economic, social and industrial infrastructure in the clusters of Pavlodar and the region.
Enterprises of the Pavlodar region, which is one of the main drivers of the national economy and industry of the country, where, during their internship, students visited and got acquainted with the activities, production and technological processes of enterprises and facilities such as:
- KazEnergoKabel JSC — started producing the first batches of products in 1994, mainly uninsulated conductors, while simultaneously constructing the buildings of the enterprise building for its opening in 1996, the largest domestic manufacturer of cable and conductor products with a product range of over 18,000 names and brand sizes.
- The Pavlodar Regional Historical and Local lore Museum named after G.N. Potanin – was founded in 1942 on the basis of the regional branch of the Society for the Study of Kazakhstan by photographer Dmitry Polikarpovich Bagaev. He also became the first director. His photographs and exhibits are included in the museum's collection. In 1959, he was named after the traveler and researcher of Central Asia, G. N. Potanin. During the tour at the museum, the students were told the paleontological history of the region, the history of the Yertys Bayan region to the present, and the local culture of the region.
- Bayanauyl National Park — which received the status of a state nature conservation complex in 1985, is a unique nature conservation monument with its own unique flora, fauna and history. During the visit to the national park, the students visited picturesque sites such as Sabyndykol, Zhasybai Lakes, Konyr Aulie cave, Kanysh Satpayev Memorial Museum, where they also studied the area of the natural park in order to determine the possibilities of the tourist and recreational potential of Bayanauyl district.
- KazMunaiKhim LLP — being a branch of the manufacturing industry, this company produces other chemical products such as additives for diesel fuel, osmosis (desalinated water), inhibitor, solvent of salt deposits, acids, surfactants (surfactants), etc.
- Aluminum of Kazakhstan JSC — founded in 1964, this plant is the only enterprise in Kazakhstan producing alumina (raw materials for aluminum production), as well as the largest employer in the Pavlodar region. The company produces alumina from bauxite and limestone extracted from mines in Kostanay and Pavlodar regions. It includes: Pavlodar Aluminum Plant, CHP-1, Krasnooktyabrskoye bauxite mining department (Kostanay region), limestone mine «Keregetas» (Pavlodar region). The peculiarity of this enterprise is that it is the only production in the world where two main technologies for the production of alumina (Al2O3) are used: the Bayer hydrochemical method and the sintering method. The Bayer method is used for high-quality bauxite with a low SiO2 The sintering method is used for processing various types of ores, including bauxite with a high content of silica, nepheline concentrates, and alumocalcium slags.
- Kazakhstan Electrolysis Plant JSC – opened in 2007, is the first and only producer of high grade primary aluminum in Kazakhstan. It is rightfully considered the flagship of the domestic metallurgy industry and is among the top ten among 200 similar aluminum giants in the world. The products of this company are in high demand and are in demand in such countries as Russia, Belarus, Turkey, China, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
- Pavlodar House of Geographers – being a regional branch of the Kazakh Geographical Society and located on the bank of the Yertys, it unites local geographers, local historians, tourists, naturalists and travelers, where students got acquainted with the activities of the House of Geographers, at the same time an interesting and fascinating conversation took place with its head.
- Goose Flight is a unique open – air paleontological museum «Qazdar Qonysy», which is the largest known burial site of Neogene animals in the world. Bones of more than 60 species of fossil animals were discovered on the territory of the museum, the monument is known as one of the largest locations of hipparion fauna in Eurasia (from the genus of extinct ungulate mammals from the equine family), which is 4-4.5 million years old: hylotherium, Synotherium rhinoceros, machairoda saber-toothed tiger, lagomeryx, samotherium, as well as many species of rodents , etc. Since 1971, the Paleontological museum has been under state protection. Goose Flight is an 800-meter section of the slope on the right bank of the Irtysh River upstream, in 2019 an open-air museum was opened on this territory, and the monument itself was mothballed.
During the internship, students skillfully applied the acquired knowledge, skills and abilities, acquired new information about the activities, structure and organization of the technological and production process of each facility of the economic and social infrastructure of Pavlodar and the Yertys Bayan region.
