
Professional Development Courses on Integrating Media Literacy into Language Education сontinue at ENU











Since June 2, the Faculty of Philology at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University has been hosting a professional development course titled “Language Teaching through the Lens of Media Literacy and Digital Culture,” organized by the Department of Russian Philology.
The course is led by Perizat Yelubayeva, PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and Principal Investigator of the research project “Methodology for Integrating Language and Media Education to Develop Media Literacy among Kazakhstani Youth” (funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan). She is also a holder of the “500 Scholars” international grant (USA, 2024) and the “Best University Teacher” award (2016).
The course materials are based on her international academic fellowship at the University of California, San Diego (USA) and aim to introduce advanced approaches to language education in the context of digital transformation.
The course covers the following topics:
- approaches to integrating media texts and visual formats into language instruction;
- development of media literacy as a key 21st-century competence;
- use of AI tools (ChatGPT, Grammarly, etc.) to enhance students’ academic, communicative, and critical thinking skills;
- the role of educators as media facilitators in digital learning environments.
This course supports the professional growth of university instructors, enhances digital and methodological competencies, and advances pedagogical practice in the era of digital industrialization in higher education.
