ENU inspected the readiness of catering points for the academic year

A special group consisting of Vice-Rector for Social and Cultural Development of the L.N. Gumilyov ENU Lyazat Nurkatova, member of the Public Council under the Ministry of Trade and Integration Arslan Karkhanov, Chairman of the ENU Youth Center Yerlan Kiikbay got acquainted with the readiness of the university’s catering outlets for the new academic year. They have been served by the company “Foodbrands” LLP for several years.
The canteens were checked for compliance with sanitary conditions, price-quality ratio, as well as for the elimination of comments from the students and the university staff.
“In order to implement the law on consumer protection, we checked the readiness of our catering, taking into account the comments of the last year.
We have identified some problems and have given recommendations to our partners who provide meals in the academic buildings and student homes.
We will also look at the entire menu, as complaints have been received about the same type of food. In this concern, recommendations were given on the creation of a flexible menu system by day of the week. We want our students to eat in the university canteens and not run around in search of food in other places,” the Vice-Rector informed.
According to representatives of catering outlets, starting from the new academic year, a set lunch for students will cost 700 KZT, and for the staff and the teachers – 1200 KZT. This is due to an increase in food prices and utility costs.
Member of the Public Council under the Ministry of Trade and Integration Arslan Karkhanov participated in the group on inspection of the university canteens within the framework of the memorandum concluded between ENU and the Department of Consumer Protection and Trade in Astana.
“During the visit to the canteens, I recommended the administration of the buffet to create a consumer corner where everyone can turn for help in observing their legal rights,” the representative of the Public Council said.
The Chairman of the ENU Youth Center Yerlan Kiikbay noted the improvement in the level of catering compared to the previous years.
“Students complain about high prices, but I think the prices correspond to the market. If we continue to demand lower prices, the quality of food will also deteriorate. I would like to see more power points. I believe that in the future we will be able to improve the situation,” the student shared.
It should be noted that all catering outlets at the university will start working on September 1.
