
ENU hosted a presentation of books dedicated to the legacy of the scientist-turkologist Karzhaubai Sartkozhauly
A book presentation was held at The L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, organized on the occasion of the anniversary of Doctor of Philology, Candidate of Historical Sciences, ENU Professor Karzhaubai Sartkozhauly, who passed away last year. The event was organized by the family of the scientist and ENU’s Scientific Research Center for Turkology and Altaistics.
Karzhaubai Sartkozhauly is a graduate of the Mongolian State University, studied at the Postgraduate Institute of Oriental Studies in Leningrad. He worked at the Academy of Sciences of Mongolia, was a director of the Scientific Center for Turkic-Kazakh Studies. Then – Head of the Laboratory of Epigraphy and Ethnography, Director of ENU’s Scientific Research Center for Turkology and Altaistics. He was one of the few scientists who for a long time studied ancient Turkic monuments in practice, revealing their linguistic, epigraphic, historical and ethnocultural aspects.
The result of his research were such scientific works as: "Ethnocultural Relation of the Ancient Turkic-Uighur Khaganate" (Almaty, 1988), "United Khaganate of Turks" (Astana, 2001), "Orkhon Muralary" (2003), "Orkhon Yeskertkishterin Atlasy" (co-authored with M. Zholdasbekov, 2005), "Atlas of Orkhon Monuments. Volume I" (in collaboration with M. Zholdasbekov, 2007), "Kone Turki Zhazuyn Genezisy" (2007), "Orta Gasyrlardagi Maykhan-Ulenin Zherasty Kesenesi. Archeologiyalyk Barlau Zhane Zertteu" (in collaboration with L. Erdenbold, K. Zhantegin, A. Ochir, et. al., in Mongolian. Ulaanbaatar, 2013), "Orkhon Yeskertkishterin Tolyk Atlasy", Volume I, II (2019), "Orkhon Yeskertkishterin Tolyk Atlasy". Volume III (Maida zhazular) (co-authored with K. Zhantegin, 2019), "Uisin Khandygy" (2016), "Kereylerdin Ethnikalyk Tarikhy" (in collaboration with J. Oshang, 2022) and other scientific books.
More than 80 scientific articles of the author have been published in Moscow, Ulaanbaatar, Beijing, Istanbul, London, Paris, Almaty and Astana.
Along with his scientific activities, Karzhaubai Sartkozhauly actively participated in public life and published works on general cultural and literary topics. Among the publications presented are significant works that combine philosophical reflections on life and death, nostalgia and scientific depth.
The first of them is the book "Kosh Bol, Apa", a heartfelt work based on family memories, where the image of the mother and the personality of the scientist are revealed with great warmth and sincerity.
The second edition is the collection "Tastan Tamyr Izdegen Gulama", which includes articles, memoirs and trueful words by foreign and domestic scientists and writers dedicated to Karzhaubai Sartkozhauly’s scientific and spiritual heritage.
The third book is a scientific monograph "The Underground Mausoleum of the Ancient Turkic Era Shoroon Bumbagar (Maikhan uul) in Central Mongolia." This is the result of the work of international archaeological expeditions led by Karzhaubai Sartkozhauly, thanks to which unique data on the underground mausoleum of the era of the ancient Turks, discovered in the Mongolian steppes, were introduced into scientific circulation.
