
A delegation from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) paid ENU an official visit

A delegation from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST, Guangzhou), headed by Lionel M. Ni, President of the University, visited the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University.
During the visit, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between ENU and HKUST. The document was signed by ENU Rector Yerlan Sydykov and Chinese University President Lionel M. Ni. The parties discussed the prospects for strategic partnership in the field of scientific research, academic mobility, implementation of joint degree programs, as well as establishment of long-term partnerships.
Welcoming the delegation, Yerlan Sydykov stressed the importance of expanding cooperation with leading universities of China:
"ENU cooperates with 29 universities of China in various fields: academic mobility, science, teacher exchange. Since 2007, we have successfully operated the Confucius Institute, which has trained more than 14,000 students. The Luban Workshop on Artificial Intelligence is reay to be launched together with the Tianjin Vocational Institute," said the rector.
He also said that for the first time in the history of Kazakhstan's higher education, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China granted accreditation for the opening of a joint institute, the Eurasian School of Science and Technology, based at Nanning Normal University. Specialists will be trained in the following areas: chemistry, biology, biotechnology. In addition, joint educational programs in the field of economics are being implemented with Nankai University.
HKUST President Lionel M. Ni introduced the university, focusing on its innovative educational model:
"Our university is the first in the world to introduce the concept of hubs and destinations instead of traditional faculties. This allows us to actively develop an interdisciplinary approach and seek solutions to global challenges. We attract leading scientists from all over the world, provide advanced research infrastructure and train students in accordance with modern scientific and market requirements," he said.
Also, during the visit, a delegation from Hong Kong visited the ENU engineering laboratories and held a series of academic meetings with teachers, discussing possible formats for further cooperation.
