The event was organized by the Faculty of Law and the Ombudsman of The L. N. Gumilyov ENU, Nelya Shapekova.
During the meeting, the guests talked about the institute of mediators, explained the work of a mediator, and introduced its advantages.
Explaining the topic of mediation, Yakup Erikel, Chairman of the Management Board of the Turkic World Mediators Union, noted that the outcome of the trial is not reconciliation of the parties, but the determination of the culprit. According to him, mediation helps to reconcile the two sides and gives each side the opportunity to take the place of the opposite, understanding the true causes of the dispute. As the speaker noted, in mediation, the parties themselves decide their fate, not the judge, and the process takes place confidentially. Yakup Erikel suggested that students create a Mediation Club at the faculty and practice new skills.
Mediator Avazbek Shamshiyev spoke about the requirements for mediators. According to him, to become a mediator, you need to reach the age of 25, have a higher education, a certificate, as well as additional education in mediation.
He also focused on the current problems of mediation in Kyrgyzstan, including the lack of financial support from the state, as well as the low level of popularization of mediation among the general population.
At the end of the meeting, the guests answered the students' questions.
