ENU now has a Petrochemistry and Polymer Materials Laboratory

On the eve of the Republic Day, a new Petrochemistry and Polymer Materials Laboratory was inaugurated at The L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. The laboratory is equipped with modern analytical and technological equipment worth more than 300 million KZT, which became possible thanks to the program-targeted financing of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The creation of the laboratory was also actively supported by the Ministry of Energy, the Petrochemical Association of Kazakhstan, the JSC “NC “KazMunayGas” and a number of other companies.
The new scientific platform is designed to become a bridge between science, business and production. The research that is being conducted here is directly related to the tasks of the real sector, from the processing of hydrocarbon raw materials to the creation of new polymer composites and recycling technologies.
The event was attended by ENU Vice Rector for Science and Commercialization Zhanna Kurmangaliyeva, Head of the Technical Regulation and Integration Department, Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aliya Dyussebayeva, Chief Expert of the Waste Management Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of RK Ainur Batyrkhanova, Deputy Chairman of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of RK Aliya Sembayeva, Head of the Oil Refining Department of the JSC “NC “Kazmunaygas” Olzhas Kaidagulov, as well as scientists.
"The creation of a new laboratory is aimed at solving the main task that research universities face today, which is the applied nature of research, active cooperation with industrial enterprises, the introduction of new developments and products into production, and thereby increasing the contribution of science to the country’s economy,” Zhanna Kurmangaliyeva, ENU Vice Rector for Science and Commercialization said.
Already today, more than 30 young scientists are conducting their scientific research in the laboratory. Practical cooperation with national polymer manufacturers has been established. The research results of the new laboratory can be used not only in the development of the processing industry, but also in the development of industry standards and regulations, and personnel training, which creates a solid foundation for a technological breakthrough in the petrochemical industry.
"We are not just creating a laboratory, we are opening a space where new materials, technologies and ideas are born that can change the industry and contribute to the development of the Kazakh industry," Gaini Seitenova, head of the laboratory, Associate Professor said. She is a graduate of the Bolashak program, a member of the Scientific and Technical Council of the JSC “NC “Kazmunaygas”, and an international industry expert in the field of oil refining, petrochemistry, and polymer materials.
The participants of the event also noted that the laboratory will become a practical base for students who will be able to put their knowledge into practice by engaging in scientific research.
"The opening of this laboratory is a very important step, because human resources are the engine of our country's development. Without qualified personnel, no industry will thrive. The state and national companies will provide you with comprehensive support," Olzhas Kaidagulov, Head of the Oil Refining Department, JSC “NC “Kazmunaygas” said.
