ENU Students Among the Winners of the International Olympiad in Russian Literature in Moscow

From October 15 to 18, 2025, the International Student Olympiad in Russian Literature was held in Moscow. The event was dedicated to the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland and the 150th anniversary of the birth of writer Sergey Nikitich Sergeev-Tsensky (1875–1958). The Olympiad took place at the Moscow Pedagogical State University (MPSU, Russian Federation) and brought together participants from various countries as part of the traditional conference of young philologists “Philological Science in the 21st Century: The View of the Young.”
The event was organized by MPSU in collaboration with L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (Republic of Kazakhstan). The Olympiad continues the legacy of the famous International and All-Russian Student Festival “Teacher of Russian Literature,” which for a quarter of a century has united talented young educators devoted to the word, literature, and culture.
At the opening ceremony, welcoming remarks were delivered by Professor, Doctor of Philology, and Head of the Department of Russian Philology at ENU, Kadisha Rustemtembekovna Nurgali, as well as Senior Lecturer of the Department, Akerke Asan.
This year, ENU was represented with dignity by students of the programs “Russian Language and Literature” and “Russian Philology,” who took part both online and in person. The competition included several categories: writing an essay on a given topic based on a literary text, artistic reading, and presentations on “The Soul and the Russian Word,” inspired by visits to Moscow’s literary museums.
The Olympiad brought together about 40 students from universities across Russia and neighboring countries. The competition was intense, yet ENU participants demonstrated a high level of preparation and creativity.
Dilnaz Umarova, a fourth-year student, received a Second Degree Diploma in the Essay Competition.
Sergey Strigun, a second-year student, became a Third Degree Laureate in the Artistic Reading Contest.
These achievements are the result of the Department of Russian Philology’s consistent work to encourage students’ participation in international Olympiads, conferences, and competitions, nurturing their academic and creative potential.
The Department takes pride in the success of its students and continues to foster a community of young researchers and educators capable of preserving and passionately developing the traditions of Russian literature and culture.
