Curatorial hour at the Department of Political Science on the topic "Independence Day: world experience and Kazakhstan"

On December 3, 2025, at 1 p.m., in the main building of the Eurasian National Faculty, a curatorial hour was held for 3rd-year students of the Political Science specialty of the Faculty of International Relations on the theme "Independence Day: World Experience and Kazakhstan", dedicated to the holiday – December 16 - Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The curator of the group is Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science Onuchko M.Yu. She noted that Independence Day is one of the most important holidays in many countries of the world and that this event marks the acquisition of statehood, sovereignty and national identity, stressing that in many countries this holiday is celebrated on a large scale, including celebrations, parades, concerts and folk festivals. During the conversation, it was noted that this holiday plays a key role in shaping national identity and a sense of pride among citizens, as the most important events preceding this day often become part of collective memory and form the basis of national history.
The students shared the experiences of countries such as the USA, France, and India, noting the specific significance of this holiday in these countries. For example, for the United States, Independence Day symbolizes victory over British colonial rule and the establishment of the principles of democracy and human rights. In France, the national holiday highlights the spirit of revolution and equality before the law, laid down during the struggle against the absolutist monarchy. In India, Independence Day commemorates the struggle for freedom from British rule and the establishment of an independent republic. But everywhere these holidays strengthen the unity of peoples, contribute to the preservation of historical values and support the continuity of generations.
At the end of the meeting, speaking about the significance of Independence Day in Kazakhstan, all participants agreed that it is especially great due to the historical context and the peculiarities of the formation of modern Kazakh statehood, because independence in December 1991 was a turning point in the development of the country, signifying the end of the Soviet period and the transition to independent development. Thus, Independence Day of Kazakhstan represents an important stage in the country's history, embodying freedom to choose the path of development, respect for the traditions of ancestors and the desire for prosperity and well-being of every citizen, which has led to significant successes in various fields of politics, economics, culture, international cooperation and the social sphere.
