ENU now has a new space called "Environmental Oasis"
The official opening of a new public space " Environmental Oasis" took place at The L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. The ceremony was attended by students, staff, teachers and guests of the university.
The event was attended by members of the ENU Management Board: Duman Aitmagambetov, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Internationalization, Lazzat Tolegenkyzy, Vice-Rector for Social and Infrastructural Development, and Indira Rystina, Vice-Rector for Quality Assurance and Internal Control.
Environmental Oasis is a project of the Strategic Development Department included in the list of 26 university initiatives approved by the Management Board for 2025. The idea proposed by the department's staff brought together like-minded people from different departments and allowed them to form a cross-functional team.
The project was implemented without additional funding, solely due to the initiative, creativity and involvement of employees striving to improve the campus space.
During the ceremony, the guests were presented with a video showing the way to create an "Environmental Oasis" - from the first shoots to the finished space. Special attention was drawn to eco-friendly and digital solutions: an educational landing page with materials about plants and the principles of sustainable development, labeling with QR codes on each plant for quick access to information, as well as a demonstration model of drip irrigation, clearly showing the rational use of water.
Thus, the space performs not only decorative and recreational functions, but also serves as an instrument of environmental education.
In his speech, Vice Rector for Strategic Development and Internationalization Duman Aitmagambetov noted:
"This project shows how an idea proposed by the staff themselves can grow into a full-fledged space that changes the campus. The team didn't wait for instructions, they just decided to make the university a better place. There should be more such green areas, and the Environmental Oasis demonstrates that, if desired, such corners can appear throughout the campus."
At the end of the ceremony, the project team handed over a symbolic key to the director of the Infrastructure Development Department, Yermek Aliyev. This step marks the initiative's transition to a new level – to system support, expansion and creation of similar green spaces in other campus spaces.
