A literary and cultural evening dedicated to the works of Chingiz Aitmatov was held at ENU

The L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University hosted the cultural and educational event “The World of Aitmatov”, dedicated to the 97th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Kyrgyz writer, thinker, and public figure Chingiz Torekulovich Aitmatov. The evening became a vivid example of intercultural dialogue uniting the Kyrgyz and Kazakh peoples and an important event in the spiritual life of the student community.
The event brought together faculty members, students, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and figures from the fields of science, culture, and the arts. From the very first moments, the evening set a profound emotional and philosophical tone: the hosts emphasized that Aitmatov’s work represents not only a literary legacy, but also a moral compass ө a philosophy of humanity, memory, and responsibility toward future generations.
The Dean of the Faculty of Philology of ENU, Serikzat Duisengazy, delivered the welcoming remarks, highlighting the special role of Chingiz Aitmatov in shaping the humanitarian consciousness of young people and strengthening intercultural ties.
The Consul of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Republic of Kazakhstan and Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ernist Abdirashitov, emphasized the global significance of the writer’s legacy, his contribution to bringing nations closer together, and to preserving spiritual values in the era of globalization.
Professors of the Kazakh University of Technology and Business — historian Nazarbek Satar uulu — and of Nazarbayev University, Duyshonkul Shamatov, presented Aitmatov as a phenomenon of world culture and one of the greatest philosophers of the twentieth century.
A special highlight of the evening was the performance by poet, writer, and film director Bayangali Alimzhanov, the only Kazakh manaschi in Kazakhstan, whose words became a living bridge between epic tradition and modern artistic thinking.
The audience was presented with a stage performance based on the novella “Kyzyl Jooluk Zhalzhalym” and the folk song “Bulbulum” performed by students.
As noted by ENU master’s student Alibek Turgunbayev, Aitmatov’s legacy continues to live in the hearts of young people, inspiring reflection on duty, memory, love for the Motherland, and responsibility for the fate of humanity.
It should be noted that the event was organized by the Department of Russian Philology, headed by Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Kadisha Nurgali, in cooperation with the Kyrgyz Cultural Center of Osh State University at ENU. The program was coordinated by the Director of the Kyrgyz Cultural Center, Aisulu Totobaeva, and Senior Lecturer of the Department of Russian Philology, Aigul Kenzhegulova.
