ENU Professor Askar Zhussupbekov Delivered a Lecture at the Geo-Summit in Shanghai

Professor Askar Zhussupbekov of L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University participated in the «China - Central Asia» Geo-Summit held in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, upon the invitation of Tongji University.
Within the framework of the international forum of leading geotechnical experts, the ENU scholar delivered a lecture dedicated to the development of a geoinformation database for soil conditions in Kazakhstan. He also shared practical experience in implementing geomonitoring of the impact of pile driving at a construction site — the main workshop of a gold production plant in the city of Pavlodar.
During the Geo-Summit, Askar Zhussupbekov and ENU postdoctoral researcher Ankit Garg took part in a technical tour of laboratories and a seismic research center, where the operation of a vibroseismic platform was demonstrated. Participants from Central Asian countries were also introduced to the construction site of Shanghai’s new main railway station.
The main objective of the Geo-Summit was to promote scientific exchange of ideas in the field of geotechnics, as well as to expand opportunities for scientific internships for students, doctoral candidates, and faculty members in the specialty of “Construction” at leading research laboratories and centers in China and Central Asia, including L. N. Gumilyov ENU and Tongji University.
Central Asia was represented at the forum by geotechnical scientists from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Mongolia.
Postdoctoral researcher of the Geotechnical Institute of ENU, Dr. Ankit Garg, informed participants about the opportunity for students and young researchers to take part in the international geotechnical competition «Young Talents in Geotechnics,» which will be held for the second time in 2026 at ENU with the support of the Kazakhstan Geotechnical Association and Technical Committee TC 305 of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE).
At the closing ceremony, Professor Askar Zhussupbekov proposed hosting the second «Central Asia - China» Geo-Summit in 2027 at L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, including a technical tour to construction sites in Almaty and the city of Alatau.
