Scientific and Methodological Seminar on the IMRaD Format and Research Methods to Enhance Future Teachers’ Research Culture

With the aim of enhancing the research culture of students enrolled in the educational program 6B01210 “Preschool Education and Upbringing,” a scientific and methodological seminar entitled “The IMRaD Format of Scientific Publications: Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methods” was held at the initiative of Professor S.N. Zhiyenbayeva.
The seminar was attended by the Head of the Department, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor M.P. Asylbekova, as well as renowned scholars P.B. Seitkaziyeva, K.T. Atemova, F.N. Zhumabekova, and others.
At the opening of the seminar, Aizel Alibekovna, Editor of the journal Dana Bala of the Institute of Early Child Development, delivered a welcoming address. She noted that, at present, scientific publications are a mandatory requirement for teachers seeking the professional categories of “teacher-researcher” and “teacher-master.” At the same time, an insufficient level of research culture among educators negatively affects the quality of published articles; therefore, the formation of research culture among future specialists should begin at the level of higher education.
The keynote speaker of the seminar was Laura Ibraeva, PhD, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Graduate School of Education, Nazarbayev University, and Professor at Maqsut Narikbayev University. In her presentation entitled “Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methods in Education,” she illustrated, through practical examples, how to select a research problem, formulate research questions, and apply quantitative and qualitative methods within one’s own research topic and in the process of writing a scientific article.
The students demonstrated strong interest in the topic, asking numerous questions. Continuing the seminar, Professor S.N. Zhiyenbayeva delivered a presentation entitled “The IMRaD Format and Structure of Scientific Publications,” in which she explained the requirements for article structure in accordance with current international standards, methods for substantiating research relevance, effective integration of research methods, as well as approaches to presenting and analyzing research findings.
At the conclusion of the event, fourth-year student A.B. Sabyrzhan presented a report entitled “Scientific Research Work: Methods and Results,” in which she discussed the application of research methods in her study, the challenges encountered in achieving results, and the new ideas and professional insights gained from the seminar.
