«Memory in the Obelisk»: Preserving Historical Memory through Scientific Research

On January 30, 2026, the presentation of the book "Memory in the Obelisk" was held at the Faculty of History. The publication was prepared as part of the implementation of the research project "Memory in the Obelisk," which was carried out as part of the "Zhan Asu" competition at the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. The project was implemented by a team of authors consisting of T.V. Koshman, A.K. Koshman, and L.I. Lysakova.

The collection of materials focuses on the description of monuments and obelisks erected in the Akkol District of the Akmola Region in memory of the soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War. The research involved the examination of archival materials and personal data of 2,255 soldiers whose names are inscribed on 18 monuments in the district. The research materials were collected based on archival documents, library collections, and open online sources. Although not all information could be obtained, the work to clarify and supplement the data will continue. The collection is a valuable source for further scientific research and can be used in local history and educational activities.
