
Memory carved in stone: a book about the memorials of the district was presented in Akkol

On February 20, 2026, the presentation of the book "Memory in the Obelisk" took place in the Central Library of the city of Akkol. The publication was prepared within the framework of the “Zhana Asu” competition project of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University.
The event was attended by the leadership of the akimat of the district and rural districts, library staff, teachers, as well as students of the Agrotechnical College. The presentation became a significant event for the cultural and social life of the district, bringing together representatives of different generations around the theme of preserving historical memory.

The author of the book, T.V. Koshman, senior lecturer at the Department of Archeology and Ethnology of the Historical Faculty of the L.N. Gumilyov ENU, presented the results of painstaking research work on the collection of documentary and archival materials, photographic documents, and information about the history of the creation of memorials and obelisks in the district. The publication contains information about 18 monuments erected in the settlements of the Akkol district. Of particular value is the work carried out to establish the fate of 2,255 fighters, whose names are carved on commemorative plaques.

Lysakova L.I., a veteran librarian, shared the results of many years of collecting information about the history of monuments, the authors and performers of some memorials. In her speech, she stressed that monuments are not only architectural objects, but also the living history of the country, connecting generations.
Akhmedzhanov S.K., Deputy Akim of the district, thanked the authors for their great contribution to preserving the memory of the countrymen who died during the Great Patriotic War. He noted that such publications are of particular importance for the younger generation of Kazakhstanis, forming respect for the history and feat of their ancestors.

The presentation took place in a warm and solemn atmosphere, becoming another step in preserving historical memory and patriotic education of young people.
