ENU Hosts Lecture on the Significance of Bone Marrow Donation
On 18 February 2026, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University hosted a lecture by representatives of the National Bone Marrow Donor Registry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which operates under the Republican State Enterprise on the Right of Economic Management 'Scientific and Production Center for Transfusiology' of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The meeting was organized for students from the Departments of 'General Biology and Genomics' and 'Biotechnology and Microbiology' of the Institute of Natural Sciences, specifically for educational program groups B050 – 'Biological and Related Sciences', M080 – 'Biology', M082 – 'Biotechnology'. During the event, students were informed about the significance of hematopoietic stem cell donation, the procedure for joining the National Registry, and the role of each potential donor in saving human lives. Participants received answers to pertinent questions: what bone marrow is and its function in the human body, who can become a donor, and how donation helps patients with oncohematological diseases. Special attention was paid to fostering social responsibility and developing a culture of donation among young people. To this day, despite the advancements in transplantation technologies and the expansion of the registry database, the need for compatible unrelated donors remains high. Due to the increasing number of patients requiring hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, increasing the number of potential donors is one of the pressing challenges for the healthcare system of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The event was held as part of the annual campaign 'Life in Every Drop of Blood' and made a significant contribution to raising students' awareness about bone marrow donation. L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University expresses gratitude to the RSE on REM 'Scientific and Production Center for Transfusiology' of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Public Fund 'Assel Bayseitova Charitable Foundation' for fruitful cooperation and conducting this socially significant lecture.
