
International Online Olympiad in Foreign Languages dedicated to the 30th anniversary of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University was held at the Faculty of International Relations











On February 27, 2026, the Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of International Relations at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University held its annual International Online Student Olympiad in Foreign Languages (English, German, French, Spanish) for students of non-linguistic disciplines.
The aim of the event was to promote multilingualism, enhance motivation for learning foreign languages, and expand students' sociocultural, linguistic, and intercultural competencies.
The event began with an official opening ceremony, where welcoming speeches were delivered by Board Member – Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs A. B. Beysenbai, Acting Dean of the Faculty of International Relations A. K. Kupayeva, and Head of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of International Relations L. K. Meirambekova, and Miguel Trigo Narbona, Spanish language lecturer at the Department of Foreign Languages
They emphasized that in today's world, amid the continuous deepening of globalization, exchange and cooperation are becoming increasingly important for individuals and countries alike. Undoubtedly, knowledge of foreign languages and the ability to overcome language barriers are among the key conditions for developing and strengthening these connections. Mastery of a foreign language opens new horizons, serving as a gateway to another culture and enabling not only a deeper understanding of others but also a fresh perspective on oneself.
They also highlighted the importance of such events, which serve as excellent platforms for knowledge and skill exchange among students and provide an opportunity to demonstrate their high level of foreign language proficiency.
The Olympiad was conducted online, allowing for broader participation and enabling students from different countries to join. More than 100 students from 3 countries and 7 universities took part in the competition, including partner universities of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University: Belarusian State University (Belarus), Osh State University (Kyrgyzstan), Karakalpak State University (Karakalpakstan)
Universities from Kazakhstan that participated in the Olympiad included: Karaganda Buketov Research University (Karaganda), Karaganda University of Kazpotrebsoyuz (Karaganda), K.Kulazhanov Kazakh University of Technology and Business, MGIMO branch of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Kazakhstan, A.K. Kussainov Eurasian Humanities Institute, Astana International University (Astana), Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University named after S. Seifullin (Astana)
First-year students of non-linguistic disciplines competed in the English language category, while second-year students participated in the French, German and Spanish language competitions.
The Olympiad consisted of two stages:
First round – Listening comprehension
Second round – Speaking on a given topic
Participants who scored over 90% in the first round were eligible to advance to the final stage of the Olympiad.
