
ENU and Sofia University are enlarging cooperation
To date, the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University is cooperating with 6 Bulgarian universities within the framework of academic mobility programs, joint education programs, and attracting foreign experts. This was announced by ENU Rector Yerlan Sydykov during a meeting with the delegation of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, who arrived at ENU on a working visit.
The guests visited the Kultegin Atrium, the Museum of Writing and the L.N. Gumilyov museum, the Alley of Honorary Professors and the Assembly of Peoples of Kazakhstan Department.
Welcoming the Bulgarian colleagues, Yerlan Sydykov informed them on ENU achievements, saying that according to 2023 results, the university is among the top 100 best universities in Asia according to QS.
ENU trains bachelors, masters and PhDs in more than 248 education programs, about 20 thousand students study at the university, including more than 1,500 foreign citizens in 13 faculties and 31 research centers.
The University is actively cooperating with almost 500 foreign partners in the implementation of scientific and educational projects.
“In 2022, our university was awarded the status of a research university and we are now actively increasing ENU’s scientific potential. In this direction, scientists from two universities can be carrying out scientific collaboration. Partnership in the field of international cooperation and personnel training will give a new impetus to the development of bilateral relations between our countries, and we will make every effort for mutually beneficial partnership,” said ENU Rector Yerlan Sydykov, adding that a memorandum of understanding was signed with Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” in April 2021.
Within the framework of this agreement, academic mobility programs are implemented, internships are conducted for master’s students and professors of Sofia University advise ENU doctoral students.
During the meeting, the parties expressed mutual interest in closer cooperation in various areas.
The Rector of Sofia University Anastas Gerdzhikov also made a welcoming speech. According to him, the oldest and most prestigious university in Bulgaria, established in 1888, is today one of the leading universities in Southeastern Europe. The university offers a wide range of education programs in the main areas of science and art. According to Sofia University representatives, the Turkology Department operates at the Faculty of Philology of the university, the Kazakh language is taught, and therefore the help of qualified specialists is required.
ENU is cooperating with 6 universities in Bulgaria: Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, University of Library Science and Information Technology, Veliko Tarnovo “St. Cyril and St. Methodius University”, Varna University of Management, D.A. Tsenov Academy of Economics, National Sports Academy “V. Levski”. Three professors of the St. Kliment Ohridsky Sofia University are foreign scientific consultants of L.N. Gumilyov ENU doctoral students.
