Exhibition of innovative student IT projects "ENU AI-Sana EXPO – 2.0" was held in ENU

Within the framework of the AI-Sana program and the Digital Nauryz concept, the second republican exhibition of innovative student IT projects "ENU AI-Sana EXPO - 2.0" was held at The L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University. During the event, students from Kazakhstani universities presented more than 30 digital solutions in the fields of healthcare, education, inclusion, culture, ecology, sociology and robotics.
The event was attended by Dinara Shcheglova, Vice Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Arai Urazova, First Deputy Director General of the Center for Digital Government Support, Yerlan Sydykov, Rector of The L.N. Gumilyov ENU, Gulmira Bekmanova, ENU Vice Rector for Digitalization, as well as scientists and students.
"One of the strategic goals of the Head of State is the digital transformation of Kazakhstan. Its implementation is impossible without highly qualified specialists trained by universities. In this regard, it is of particular importance to increase the interest of young people in artificial intelligence technologies. This exhibition is aimed at developing digital solutions in the field of education and strengthening interuniversity cooperation," ENU Rector Yerlan Sydykov said in his speech.
During her welcoming speech, Vice Minister Dinara Shcheglova stressed that many projects of last year's ENU AI-Sana EXPO were noted at the governmental and international levels and are already generating income.
"You are implementing projects not only for the university, but also for various sectors of the economy, thereby contributing to their development. This is your contribution to the future of the country. Today, these may be startups, but this is how large-scale projects appear, which in the future turn into multinational companies. This is how Google and Duolingo appeared. I wish you innovative and creative ideas," the speaker addressed the students.
The exhibition featured projects by students of the Eurasian National University, Turan-Astana University, M. Kozybayev Moscow State University and the Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University.
Following the results of the exhibition, a competitive jury selected the best projects, the authors of which were awarded with diplomas and valuable gifts from the sponsors of the event - Lenovo and Platonus companies.
One of the best was the project of ENU students Arman Lailiyev and Zhaniya Zhumal. They have developed a system that uses computer vision to identify plastic objects in the garbage stream. The model analyzes the images from the camera and determines the presence of plastic in real time for further sorting according to the RIC system.
Of particular interest was the AI project on recognizing handwritten Kazakh text using an artificial intelligence model trained by machine learning methods, student Yernur Zholausha. According to the author, the project has developed a web service with a server-less architecture designed for high-precision recognition of handwritten texts in Kazakh, Russian and English.
According to the results of the competition, the first place was taken by the projects:
"Luban robotic manipulator for detecting plastic from garbage" - Arman Lailiyev and Zhania Zhumal;
