A lecture series by Ekaterina Sharapova on modern trends in the development of the Russian language was held at L.N. Gumilyov ENU

A lecture series by invited speaker Ekaterina Sharapova, Candidate of Philological Sciences and researcher at the V.V. Vinogradov Russian Language Institute, was held at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. A renowned scholar in Russian linguistics, she presented a series of academic lectures addressing some of the most pressing issues in contemporary language studies.
Over several days, students, master’s and doctoral candidates, as well as faculty members, had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of linguistic mechanisms, authorial lexicography, and the development of phraseological systems. Each lecture combined academic rigor with engaging delivery, making discussions both informative and inspiring.
The first lecture, “Linguistic Anomalies: Mechanisms of Formation and Stylistic Effects,” explored “non-standard” speech phenomena, from deviations from norms to deliberate literary experimentation. Sharapova demonstrated how such deviations function as expressive tools and reflect an author’s individual style.
The second lecture, “A Dictionary of Collocations with Intensifiers in the Language of Fyodor Dostoevsky as a Project of Authorial Lexicography,” revealed lesser-known aspects of the writer’s language. The speaker explained how Dostoevsky developed his own system of semantic intensification, creating a dense lexical world in which every word carries emotional energy and philosophical depth.
The third lecture, “Phraseology of the Russian Language from the 19th to the 21st Century: Trends in Semantic Development,” addressed the dynamics of set expressions in culture. Sharapova showed how phraseology reflects historical and social changes, becoming a mirror of a nation’s linguistic self-awareness.
The lecture series received a strong response from the academic community. Participants asked numerous questions, which were answered with detailed explanations and engaging scholarly insights. Attendees highlighted the high academic value of the lectures, as well as the speaker’s ability to combine analytical precision with accessible presentation.
Ekaterina Sharapova has been visiting the university for the second consecutive year, actively participating in academic events. Her lectures became a significant event in the academic and educational life of the university, contributing to the strengthening of international academic ties and fostering cultural dialogue on the development of the Russian language within modern philological science.
Such visits do more than share knowledge - they create a new space for communication, where language becomes not merely an object of study, but a living interlocutor of its time.
