The pre-defense of graduate theses took place at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics

In order to assess the readiness of final-year dissertations at the start of the pre-graduation internship for fourth-year students, a preliminary defence of dissertations was held on 28 March at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics for graduates of the RYAL-42 and RF-42 cohorts who are conducting research in the field of linguistics. A total of 39 graduates are currently working on their theses in the department.
The Department Chair E.A. Zhuravleva outlined for the students the main stages of the thesis process in the Platonus automated system leading up to the defense. The pre-defense was attended by the students’ academic advisors and members of the department.
The graduating students presented their theses, outlined the main sections of their work, and answered questions from the faculty members in attendance. Particular attention was paid to the research component of the thesis, which demonstrated the student’s personal contribution to the exploration of the topic.
Overall, the graduates demonstrated a high standard of work and a sufficient level of preparedness; however, some papers received serious feedback regarding both content and technical presentation. The recommendations and advice provided will serve as a solid foundation for refining their research. Next, the graduates will undergo a standards review (supervised by Dr. Zh.B. Seliverstova, PhD) and a check through the Antiplagiat system.
The graduates who won awards at the international conference were presented with diplomas
